Federal Polytechnic Ayede Orientation: Acting Rector Warns Students Against Social Vices

The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, has advised newly admitted students to remain disciplined and avoid social vices that could negatively impact their academic journey.

He gave this warning during the opening session of a two-day orientation programme organized for fresh students of the institution. The event, which also had the Registrar, Mrs. Bukola Elizabeth Dairo, in attendance, marked a significant step in integrating new students into the Polytechnic system.

Dr. Ojo noted that despite being a relatively young institution, established just five years ago, Federal Polytechnic Ayede has made notable progress and earned a commendable position among higher institutions in Nigeria. He stressed the need to sustain these achievements through discipline, focus, and commitment to academic excellence.

Congratulating the students on securing admission, the Acting Rector reminded them that many candidates aspire to gain entry into the institution but are unable to do so. He therefore urged them to make the most of the opportunity by staying dedicated to their studies and maintaining good conduct throughout their academic programme.

The orientation programme featured a series of insightful lectures delivered by experienced academics and administrators, focusing on key areas essential for student success.

Delivering a lecture on “Understanding the Polytechnic System in Nigeria, Career Development and Entrepreneurship,” the Director of Academic Planning, Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) T. M. Adepoju, represented by Mrs. Olonisakin, provided an overview of the evolution of polytechnic education in Nigeria. She encouraged students to take their studies seriously and begin early preparation for their careers, emphasizing the importance of staying productive and avoiding idleness.

In another session, the Acting Dean of the School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. Oluwafemi Jacob Ayangbekun, spoke on effective study habits, time management, note-taking, and examination preparation. He urged students to attend lectures and practical sessions regularly and warned that poor academic performance could result in probation or eventual withdrawal if not addressed promptly.

Students were also introduced to the effective use of library resources by Mrs. Ibukun Olanike Adeyanju of the Polytechnic Library. She highlighted the availability of both physical and digital learning materials and noted that library hours are often extended during examination periods to support academic activities.

Additionally, Mr. Peter Adewale Oyeleke of the Bursary Department delivered a session on financial literacy, advising students to adopt prudent spending habits and manage their finances responsibly.

The orientation programme reflects the institution’s commitment to guiding students toward academic excellence, personal development, and responsible citizenship, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their chosen careers.
