The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, is set to host the 22nd edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) from April 5 to April 12, 2025, with 53 polytechnics and over 4,000 athletes confirmed for participation.
The Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Dr. Oluwakemi Ogungbamigbe, announced that the event will span eight days, featuring sports competitions, cultural showcases, and economic activities. Athletes will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, chess, scrabble, badminton, taekwondo, and more.
Secretary General of NIPOGA, Mallam Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed that contingents from states including Delta, Taraba, Bauchi, Rivers, Osun, and Ekiti have already arrived, with others en route. “All things have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free tournament,” he assured.
Rector of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, emphasized that beyond medals, the event aims to foster unity and sportsmanship among students nationwide. This year’s theme, Ijakadi 2024, draws from Offa’s historic wrestling festival symbolizing fairness and togetherness.
Adding to the excitement, the institution will showcase groundbreaking innovations, including an electric car (Okin-EV1), an electric bicycle (Okin-EBicycle), a full-color digital billboard, and a 3D printer. These displays highlight the polytechnic’s commitment to technology and sustainability.
Security measures have been strengthened with support from the Kwara State Police Command, Civil Defence, and local security agencies.
Dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony include Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, and the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Muhammad Gbadamosi Esuwoye II.
With top officials, athletes, and spectators set to converge in Offa, NIPOGA 2025 promises to be a landmark event in Nigerian polytechnic sports history.
