Vitel Wireless Partners OPay, Moniepoint to Expand Airtime and Data Access Across Nigeria

Vitel WiWreless has entered into a strategic partnership with OPay and Moniepoint to enable millions of Nigerians to purchase airtime and data services directly through their fintech platforms and banking channels.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen the connection between Nigeria’s growing fintech sector and the telecommunications industry while improving digital access for users nationwide, particularly in underserved communities.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of Vitel Wireless, Chudi Nwabueze, the partnership represents another major step toward integrating financial technology with mobile connectivity services across Nigeria.
He explained that the company’s existing collaboration model with traditional banks such as Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank has now been extended to leading fintech firms to further improve customer convenience and digital inclusion.
Under the partnership arrangement, customers using OPay and Moniepoint will be able to seamlessly recharge Vitel Wireless airtime and subscribe to mobile data bundles directly from their wallets or bank accounts without additional stress.
Nwabueze stated that leveraging the extensive user base and nationwide digital payment infrastructure of both fintech companies would help increase telecom accessibility in rural and less connected areas of the country.
Speaking on the development, Vitel Wireless Product Marketing Manager, Odera Ben-Chiobi, said the collaboration aligns with the company’s vision of democratising mobile connectivity across Nigeria.
According to her, the integration of telecom and fintech services will help bring affordable digital communication services closer to millions of Nigerians who previously had limited access to reliable mobile connectivity and financial services.
She added that the initiative also supports broader financial inclusion goals by creating a more connected ecosystem where Nigerians can conveniently access both digital payment services and telecommunications solutions from a single platform.
Vitel Wireless further disclosed that its nationwide network coverage is powered through a partnership agreement with MTN Nigeria, allowing the company to leverage MTN’s radio infrastructure across all states in Nigeria.
The telecom provider noted that the collaboration with fintech companies demonstrates a shared commitment toward inclusive economic growth, digital transformation, and wider participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.
Industry analysts believe the partnership could accelerate the adoption of digital financial services and mobile connectivity in rural communities where access to telecommunications and banking services remains limited.
With Nigeria experiencing rapid growth in fintech usage, experts say collaborations between telecom operators and digital payment platforms are becoming increasingly important for expanding internet penetration, improving financial access, and driving digital commerce nationwide.
Both OPay and Moniepoint have built strong reputations within Nigeria’s fintech ecosystem, supported by millions of users and extensive agent networks spread across urban and rural communities.
The latest partnership is expected to further deepen the integration of financial technology and telecommunications while improving customer experience for users seeking seamless airtime and data purchases across Nigeria.
