Fire Guts Main Library at Kano State Polytechnic, Destroys Books and E-Learning Resources

A major fire outbreak has destroyed the main library of Kano State Polytechnic, causing heavy damage to academic materials and learning facilities within the institution.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, May 12, 2026, at the library complex located within the School of Management Studies along Yahaya Gusau Road in Kano State.
According to reports, the fire completely razed the library, destroying valuable textbooks, academic publications, e-library resources, computers, and other essential equipment used for teaching, learning, and research activities.
The Rector of the institution, Abubakar Umar Farouk, who visited the scene after the incident, described the fire as a devastating development and a huge loss to the academic community.
He also prayed for divine protection against future occurrences and assured that necessary steps would be taken following the incident.
Authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations have commenced by the state fire service command.
The destruction of the library is expected to significantly affect academic and research activities within the polytechnic community, especially students and lecturers who rely heavily on the facility for learning resources and digital research materials.
The statement was issued by Auwal Ismail Bagwai, Head of Public Affairs of the institution.
