As the cost of everything in Nigeria has skyrocketed, it really affects the education sector, as most of the polytechnics and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria have increased their tuition fees.

While Nigerian students and other stakeholders are appealing for reconsideration, it seems nothing has been done yet, and there is no hope for average Nigerian students from a poor home.

Despite the fact that almost all schools have reviewed their school fees upward, there are still some federal polytechnics in Nigeria whose school fees are cheap and affordable. In this report, we will point out the cheapest federal polytechnic in Nigeria.

After thorough research of all the federal polytechnics in Nigeria, we can tell you authoritatively that the schools listed below are cheap and affordable.

1. Federal Polytechnic, Mubi.

This Federal Polytechnic is located at Mubi in Adamawa State. The institution offers ND and HND programs, which are available on a full-time and part-time basis. Fed Poly Mubi is the cheapest polytechnic in Nigeria. Students pay less than 55k for the first year and 30k–40k for the second year.

2. Federal Polytechnic Idah.

Although the school management recently approved an upward review of school fees, the newly approved school fees are affordable. School fees at Idah Poly are between #40 and #55,000, depending on the program of study.

3. Federal Polytechnic Kaduna.

Kaduna Polytechnic operates on five campuses, each with a different faculty. This institution is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest federal polytechnic in Nigeria. We checked the payable school fees paid by ND and HND students and compared them with other polytechnics in Nigeria, and we found out that KADPOLY still remains one of the cheapest federal polytechnics in Nigeria as of the time this report was published.

4. Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure.

HAFED POLY is a federal polytechnic located in Kazaure, Jigawa State. Apart from the fact that this school is very cheap, the cost of accommodation and food in the school community is cheap as well. You can get an accommodation of 20k in Kazaure, and school fees are between 40 and 45k per session, with the highest being 50k as of the time of publishing this report.

5. Federal Polytechnic Oko.

Federal polytechnic Oko is the cheapest polytechnic in the southeast. We learned that the school management has increased school fees, but they’re still affordable compared to other federal polytechnics in the southeast. Tuition fees at Oko Poly are between 45k and 58k per session. However, students studying through the regular part-time program pay above #60,000 per session. The full-time program is cheap.

6. Federal Polytechnic Ede.

Federal polytechnic Ede is located in Ede town, Osun State, southwest Nigeria. The polytechnic is the cheapest federal polytechnic in the Southwest. Tuition fees are below #60,000 per session. Please note that Ede Poly’s daily part-time and weekend programs are kind of expensive. Only the full-time program is affordable for both their National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs.

What about accommodation? Well, accommodation in Ede town ranges from #24,000 and above, and this depends on location and your budget.

7. Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

Getting to the Federal School of Surveying in Oyo gives you the opportunity to have an ideal environment for learning. One major objective of the school is to continually advance the frontiers of knowledge and understanding in surveying and geo-infomatics.

The courses offered at the school are primarily environmental programs such as quantity surveying, surveying, and geo-informatics among others. If your course of study is related to environmental studies, then you can consider coming to FSS Oyo because their fees are affordable and they run Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programs for HND graduates that want to top up their certificates.

8. Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan.

The college is located in Ibadan, and their school fees are also cheap. The college runs both ND and HND programs.

9. Federal Polytechnic Daura. 

The Federal Polytechnic Daura, Katsina State, is also one of the cheapest federal polytechnics in Nigeria. As of the time of publishing this report, school fees are between 40k and 50k per session for the National Diploma (ND) programs.

10. Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

Federal Polytechnic Ayede is located in Oyo State, Nigeria. School fees are between 55k and 45k per session. If you are from the south-west, then you may consider seeking admission here because the fees are cheaper compared to other schools.

11. Federal Polytechnic Offa.

The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, full-time program is one of the cheapest in the south-west or north-central part of Nigeria. If you want to enjoy the affordable fee, make sure you are coming through the full-time program because part-time program school fees range from 65k and above, while full-time school fees are below 55k per session. Engineering and science courses may pay more than other departments.

Federal Polytechnic Offa or Federal Polytechnic Ede: which one is cheaper and more affordable? In terms of school fees and other registration dues, Offa Poly is the cheapest compared to Ede Poly.

12. Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda.

Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda is one of the cheapest federal polytechnics in Nigeria. School fees depend on the program, and they range from 38k and above to 55k per session.

13. Federal Polytechnic Auchi.

Auchi Polytechnic is a federal school located in Edo State, south-south Nigeria. The polytechnic is one of the largest and oldest schools in Nigeria. School fees are very affordable. Fresh students pay about #60,000 per session and below #50,000 for the second year, depending on their program of study.

14. Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.

Federal Polytechnic Bauchi offers two programs, STREAM A and Stream B, available for both ND and HND. The stream A school fee, which is the full-time program is cheap; among all the schools in the northwest, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi remains the cheapest.

15. Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas Bonny.

The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas Bonny is a federally funded, run, and managed polytechnic by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The institution is located in Rivers State, South South Nigeria. The school runs full-time programs only, and their school fees are affordable too.

In conclusion, it is no longer news that almost all the schools in Nigeria have already increased their school fees; however, despite the school fee increment, all the schools listed above are still cheap and affordable compared to other polytechnics, provided students choose the full-time program.
