TASUED Graduates 5,141 Students as NELFUND Disburses N700 Million in Student Loans

The Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, Professor Adekunle Adeogun, has announced that a total of 5,141 students are expected to graduate at the university’s 17th convocation ceremony, scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday.
Professor Adeogun revealed that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has played a crucial role in supporting students’ academic pursuits. During the 2025/2026 academic session, 4,210 students benefited from NELFUND loans totaling N700 million, ensuring that financial constraints did not hinder access to quality education.
Highlighting the convocation plans, the Vice-Chancellor confirmed that the university would confer honorary Doctor of Science (Education) degrees on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun. Former Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba will also receive an honorary doctorate in Political Science.
Breaking down the graduating students, Professor Adeogun stated that 4,785 regular students are set to graduate. Of this number, 40 students achieved First Class Honours, 1,466 earned Second Class Upper, 2,768 made Second Class Lower, 492 obtained Third Class, and 19 were awarded Pass degrees. Additionally, 356 postgraduate students will receive various advanced degrees.
The overall best graduating student is Bukola Osunrinde, a Computer Science graduate who achieved a perfect CGPA of 5.0.
Professor Adeogun also highlighted the university’s academic expansion, noting that the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently approved 12 new undergraduate programs and four doctoral programs. These include Entrepreneurship, Physics and Electronics, Cyber Security, Data Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Adult Education, Yoruba, Christian Religious Knowledge, and Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Speaking on the impact of NELFUND, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the scheme has significantly enhanced access to higher education in Nigeria. “NELFUND is a fantastic initiative, and we remain grateful to the Federal Government for this thoughtful program. It has expanded opportunities for Nigerian youths regardless of their economic background. For the 2025/2026 session, 4,210 of our students have benefited from N700 million in loans,” he said, praising President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to education.
The convocation ceremony will also feature the university’s 20th anniversary lecture, originally scheduled for November last year, delivered by the Minister of Education, Dr. Moruf Alausa.
Professor Adeogun affirmed that TASUED currently enjoys full NUC accreditation, with curricula designed to meet global standards. The university emphasizes STEM education, digital pedagogy, entrepreneurship, and inclusive education. Federal Government adoption has strengthened the institution, particularly in teacher education, infrastructure development, and ICT capacity, supporting e-learning, virtual instruction, and digital administration.
The Vice-Chancellor also noted that TASUED alumni continue to excel globally. One year after alumnus Dr. Kayode Adewale was recognized among the Top 50 Teachers in the World, postgraduate student Adeola Olufunke Akinsulure, pursuing a Master’s in Educational Technology, has emerged as one of the top 10 finalists in an international education award.
