Obafemi Awolowo University Launches OAU eCampus for Online Degree Programmes Across Nigeria and Diaspora

Obafemi Awolowo University has officially launched the OAU eCampus, a fully online learning platform designed to extend the university’s accredited degree programmes to students across Nigeria, West Africa, and the diaspora.
The initiative followed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the university and Astria Learning on May 13, 2026, marking a major step in OAU’s plan to expand access to quality higher education beyond its Ile-Ife campus.
According to the university, the OAU eCampus will provide the same accredited degree programmes available on campus, with courses taught by OAU lecturers and governed under the institution’s existing academic policies and standards.
Founded in 1962, OAU is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading public universities, known for academic excellence, research output, and leadership development across West Africa.
The university explained that the new digital learning platform is designed to serve students who may not be able to relocate to Ile-Ife for physical studies, including working professionals, mid-career managers, and Nigerians living abroad.
The OAU eCampus will run on Astria Learning’s digital education infrastructure, featuring an AI-enabled learning management system, retention analytics, a 24-hour academic help desk, and access to the Astria Digital Library.
According to the institution, the digital library will provide students with searchable access to more than 170,000 academic resources, including offline functionality for learners with limited internet connectivity.
The university also disclosed that online examinations and assessments would be conducted through identity-verified proctoring systems to protect the integrity and credibility of OAU certificates awarded through the platform.
Speaking on the partnership, the Vice Chancellor of OAU, Adebayo Simeon Bamire, described the collaboration as part of the university’s strategic effort to expand quality education across West Africa and beyond.
He said the initiative would deliver a competitive and affordable e-learning experience while preserving the institution’s longstanding academic standards.
Also commenting on the project, Jeff Bordes said the OAU eCampus would make it easier for working professionals and diaspora Nigerians to earn OAU degrees without relocating to the university’s main campus.
According to him, the platform would maintain the same faculty structure, curriculum quality, and academic standards as the physical university.
Through the OAU eCampus, the university plans to offer accredited undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programmes while increasing student enrolment capacity without massive physical infrastructure expansion.
The institution confirmed that the first set of students under the OAU eCampus model is expected to begin studies in January 2027.
The development is expected to strengthen online education opportunities in Nigeria and improve access to flexible learning pathways for students seeking recognised university degrees from anywhere in the world.
