Ilaro Poly Hits Milestone: Akinde Leads 4th Accreditation Drive as NBTE Moves to Digital Inspections

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro once again demonstrated its dedication to academic excellence as it successfully hosted a critical accreditation exercise by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on March 18, 2025. This marks the fourth accreditation exercise overseen by the institution’s Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA, FCIT, since he assumed office in 2022.
The high-stakes exercise, which included accreditation, re-accreditation, approval for additional streams, and resource inspection, was conducted by a team led by Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar. She reaffirmed NBTE’s unwavering commitment to upholding quality standards in technical education, assuring stakeholders of the Board’s strict adherence to its code of ethics.
During the visit, a significant policy shift was announced by Dr. John Onyebuchi, representing the Zonal Director for the Southwest Zone. He revealed that, effective April 1, 2025, NBTE would transition away from physical resource inspections and accreditations in favor of a fully digital process. He urged all tertiary institutions to prioritize investments in ICT laboratories and digital infrastructure to align with the new system.
Expressing gratitude for the successful exercise, Dr. Akinde praised the NBTE officials and resource persons for their dedication, especially during the fasting period. He also commended the management, staff, and other stakeholders for their unwavering support and contributions to the institution’s continuous growth.
“This is a testament to our collective commitment to academic excellence and national development,” Dr. Akinde remarked. “We are proud to be setting the pace in adapting to new standards in polytechnic education.”
The achievement reinforces Federal Polytechnic Ilaro’s status as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s technical education sector, with Dr. Akinde’s administration steering the institution towards greater heights.
