Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Dissolves Campus Associations’ Executives, Orders Fresh Elections

The management of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene, has approved the immediate dissolution of all associations’ executive officers operating legally on campus following the expiration of their tenure.
The directive was issued through the Office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs in an official circular dated 5 February 2026 and addressed to all Schools, Departments, and Local Government Chapters within the institution.
According to the notice, all elected association executives are to step down with immediate effect. Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments have been instructed to mandate student advisers under their supervision to constitute electoral boards responsible for conducting fresh elections.
The circular emphasized that all association elections must be concluded on or before 20 February 2026 and must strictly comply with the provisions outlined in the Students’ Information Handbook as well as individual association constitutions.
The management further stated that any association that fails to conduct its election before the Students Union Government election will be disqualified from participating in the Students Union Government Parliament. In addition, elections carried out without prior approval from the Dean of Students’ Affairs will not be recognized by the institution.
To promote transparency and accountability, the directive mandates that all elections must be conducted through a secret ballot system. An election monitoring team will also be constituted to oversee the entire process and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines, as well as the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs urged all concerned parties to adhere strictly to the directive, stressing that the policy is aimed at strengthening student leadership, promoting democratic values, and maintaining order within the polytechnic.
The circular was electronically signed by Dr. Unyime P. Udoudo, Dean of Students’ Affairs, and copied to key principal officers of the institution, including the Acting Rector, Acting Registrar, Bursar, Polytechnic Librarian, Deans of Schools and Directors, Heads of Departments and Units, and the Chief Security Officer and SPI Coordinator.
This development underscores the institution’s commitment to effective student governance, regulatory compliance, and structured leadership transitions within Nigeria’s higher education system.
