Osun State University’s Department of Nursing Science has received approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to increase its admission quota from one hundred (100) to one hundred and fifty (150).
The University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, announced this development in a statement released on Monday, February 12, 2024. According to Adesoji, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye, was informed of the quota increase through a letter dated Tuesday, January 23, 2024 and signed by the Director (Nursing)/Head of Standards and Accreditation Department of the Council, Ndagi Alhassan, for the Registrar, Dr. Faruk Abubakar.
The letter partly read “I have been directed to convey the Registrar’s approval of indexing quota of 150 for the Department of Nursing Science, Osun State University, Osogbo. The University is advised to adhere to the new admission quota.”
It is noteworthy that just two years ago, the Department’s admission quota stood at seventy-five (75), and it was subsequently increased to one hundred (100) before reaching the current 150 in less than two years.
In response to the increased quota, the Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism about the positive impact the expanded program would have on the community and the overall healthcare system. He reiterated the University’s dedication to producing well-rounded and competent Nurses who will significantly contribute to enhancing healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor also extended congratulations to the department on the quota increase, emphasizing that it serves as a call to all departmental staff to intensify their efforts towards efficient service delivery.
