Polytechnics that Offer ND/HND Transportation Planning and Management
The Transportation Planner studies, analyzes, and evaluates data from current and proposed transportation projects and systems. Studies proposed transportation projects, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the plans.
The duties of a transportation planner includes:
Evaluates the legality of current and proposed transit infrastructure.
Drafts reports outlining findings and recommendations. Recommends acceptance, rejection, or modifications for proposed plans.
Recommends modifications to current plans to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, reduce cost, and implement other improvements.
Where can Transportation Planning and Management students Work?
Graduates of Transportation Planning and Management can work as Manager, Logistics Supply & Demand Planner,
Planning Excellence Manager, Supply Planning Specialist, International Staffing Solutions, Media Planning and Buying Executive.
The programme is designed to produce technicians in transportation planning and management, capable of assisting professionals in the transport industry.
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this programme the student should be able:
- a) To appreciate the purpose of transportation planning and management in national development
- b) Understand the various level of transportation planning, operation and management
- c) Understand the various models of transport and their interrelationships.
- d) Understand all type of transport facilities and their requirements
- e) Understand various transportation problems and their solutions
- f) Conduct elementary traffic survey and a write report
- g) Design simple transportation facilities
- h) Partake in the construction of transport infrastructure facilities
- i) Manage small transport outfit
- j) Identify and explore investment opportunities in the transport industries
- k) Understand the various models in Transportation Planning
- l) Understand the various laws and regulations guiding the operations and management in the transportation systems.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROGRAMME:
Candidates who desire to be admitted into the programme should possess:
(a) Five GCE ‘O’ Level or WASC or SSSC/NECO or NTC/ANTC with credit passes in relevant subjects to the programme, i.e., Mathematics, English Language and Geography and any two from the following – Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Government/History, Technical Drawing and Biology/Agricultural Science/Health Science
(b) Candidates must obtain the approved minimum cut-off mark in UTME.

STATUS: The course is a less competitive course, meaning to gain admission to the program is easy and straightforward.
