NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Service Evasion, Urges Discipline and National Contribution

The Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, has issued a stern warning to corps members against evading service, stressing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and active participation in national development.
Kubiangha made the remarks during a familiarization visit combined with the General Community Development Service meeting in Olorunda Local Government Area, held at the Osogbo Township Stadium, Omo West.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s national progress depends on the dedication and accountability of every corps member. Acts of evasion and indiscipline, he warned, undermine the objectives of the NYSC scheme and can attract disciplinary measures, including possible extensions of the service year.
“The clarion call is for all corps members to contribute meaningfully to national development and avoid evasion during service,” Kubiangha said. He urged members to maintain professionalism, including wearing the approved NYSC uniform properly, respecting authority, and participating fully in the mandatory monthly clearance exercises.
The coordinator also warned against unauthorized travel and lending of NYSC uniforms to non-corps members, stressing that such infractions could affect service completion and eligibility for future opportunities. He further encouraged corps members to make measurable impacts at their Places of Primary Assignment, aligning their activities with the core objectives of the NYSC programme.
Also speaking at the event, the Osogbo Zonal Inspector, Dolapo Stephen, reiterated the importance of strict compliance with NYSC regulations. He noted that the scheme operates within a well-defined legal and administrative framework, and adherence to these rules is essential for the integrity and success of national service.
The NYSC continues to emphasize youth empowerment, community development, and skill acquisition, encouraging corps members to see their service year as a platform for personal growth, professional excellence, and meaningful contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.
