NYSC 2026: DG Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu Urges Corps Members to Excel, Respect Local Customs and Boost National Development

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on corps members to respect the customs of their host communities, remain committed, be resourceful, and uphold punctuality at their primary assignments while contributing effectively to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Speaking to the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states, Nafiu commended the young participants for responding positively to the national call to service. He emphasized the importance of prudent financial management, noting that wise handling of resources would support them during and beyond their service year.
“Respect the rules of your place of primary assignment, be punctual, be resourceful, and learn the culture of your host organization,” Nafiu advised, highlighting that good conduct and adaptability are essential for a successful service year.
In Ogun State, NYSC Coordinator Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu reported that 3,341 corps members, including 975 initially posted to Lagos State, were registered at the camp. She praised the corps members for their discipline and adaptability to the structured camp environment and commended the camp officials for their diligent and collaborative efforts in managing the orientation programme.
Similarly, in Oyo State, Coordinator Mr. Kayode Ola-Peters noted that 3,068 registered corps members demonstrated exemplary conduct, actively participated in camp activities, and showed readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.
The NYSC had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across all 37 orientation camps. Camp registration took place from January 21 to January 23, with the swearing-in ceremony held on January 23 and the closing ceremony scheduled for February 10, 2026.
The Director-General’s address underscores the NYSC’s commitment to fostering civic responsibility, cultural integration, and practical skill development among Nigerian youth, preparing them to make meaningful contributions to the nation’s social and economic progress.
