Federal Education Funding: TETFund Sponsors Training for 185 MAU Yola Staff

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has sponsored no fewer than 185 teaching and non-teaching staff of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, for capacity-building and professional development programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Umar, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Yola to mark the institution’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony.
Professor Umar said the sponsored staff benefited from various training programmes aimed at strengthening academic delivery, administrative efficiency, and institutional development. He added that several other members of staff are currently undergoing both local and international training under similar initiatives.
According to him, staff welfare and capacity building remain central to the university’s reform agenda. He explained that the institution has implemented a number of welfare-focused policies, including the introduction of interest-free loans for staff and burial financial support for families of employees who pass away while in active service.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, Adamawa State Government, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the North-East Development Commission, the Nigerian Revenue Service, security agencies, development partners, and the National Assembly for their continued support to the university.
Providing an update on academic output, Professor Umar revealed that a total of 7,094 students graduated during the period under review. The breakdown includes 116 First Class graduates, 1,798 Second Class Upper, 2,978 Second Class Lower, 809 Third Class, and three Pass degrees.
He also acknowledged the National Universities Commission for approving 20 new academic programmes, describing the development as a major boost to the institution’s academic expansion and competitiveness.
As part of activities lined up for the convocation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor announced that a pre-convocation lecture would be delivered by Professor Umaru Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State.
He said the lecture, titled “Building Trust Amidst Conflict: Communication, Leadership and the Promise of Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria,” would focus on leadership, national unity, and conflict management in contemporary Nigeria.
The university leadership reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, staff development, and sustained collaboration with government agencies and education funding bodies to improve higher education outcomes in the country.
