Oko Poly SIEC Adopts Open-Seceret Ballot for SUG Election
The Students’ Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, said it would adopt an open-secret ballot system for the upcoming student election in line with the students union constitution.
SIEC chairman, Comrade Silas Okolie disclosed this while addressing the students on Wednesday adding that the open-secret ballot will promote transparency and fairness during the election process.
“With the open-secret ballot system, we are aiming that voters will be able to mark their ballots in secret, but the results of the election will be publicly available. This means that students will have the freedom to vote for their preferred candidate without fear of retribution, while also ensuring that the election results are fair and accurate.”
“The open-secret ballot system will also make it easier for the Students’ Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to address any concerns or disputes that may arise during the election. The Students’ Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) is committed to ensuring that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and transparent, and we believe that this new mode of election will help us achieve that goal.”
He encouraged the students to participate fully in the SU elections as voting is their right to choose a leader to represent them in the next academic session.
“We encourage all students to participate in the upcoming elections and exercise their right to vote. We also urge all candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and in line with the rules and regulations that will be set out by the Students’ Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).”
