Kogi State Polytechnic Appoints Acting Deans to Strengthen Academic Leadership at Itakpe Campus

Kogi State Polytechnic has announced the appointment of two Acting Deans for its Itakpe Campus in a strategic move to enhance academic administration, leadership continuity, and institutional excellence.
The Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, approved the appointments as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance across key academic units within the Polytechnic. The Itakpe Campus, which serves as an annex of the institution, houses the School of Engineering Technology, the School of Agricultural Technology, and the School of Preliminary Studies.
Effective from April 13, 2026, the appointments reflect the institution’s commitment to promoting capable leaders with proven records of academic excellence, administrative competence, and dedication to institutional growth.
At the School of Preliminary Studies, Mr. Mayomi Shola Dickson, a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Arts and Social Sciences, has been appointed Acting Dean. He is expected to provide both academic and administrative leadership for the school.
Mr. Mayomi brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as Head of Department, Arts and Social Sciences, as well as Dean of the School of Part-time and Vocational Studies. His leadership track record is marked by stability, discipline, and a strong commitment to staff and student development, making him well-suited for the new responsibility.
In a similar development, Engr. Abubakar Mohammed has been appointed Acting Dean of the School of Engineering Technology. A Principal Lecturer with a strong background in engineering education and research, he is widely recognized for his technical expertise and contributions to academic advancement within the Polytechnic.
Engr. Mohammed previously served as Head of Department, Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Itakpe Campus, where he played a key role in improving academic standards, mentoring students, and promoting innovation within the department.
While congratulating the appointees, the Rector charged them to justify the confidence placed in them by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and visionary leadership. He urged them to work closely with staff and students to sustain the Polytechnic’s growth and maintain high academic standards.
The new appointments are expected to further strengthen institutional capacity, improve administrative efficiency, and support the Polytechnic’s mission of delivering quality technical and vocational education.
This development underscores Kogi State Polytechnic’s continued focus on building a resilient academic structure driven by experienced leadership and a commitment to excellence in higher education.
