Poly Benue Mass Communication Department Inaugurates MACSA EXCO, Emphasizes Discipline and Academic Excellence

The Department of Mass Communication at Federal Polytechnic Wannune has officially inaugurated the newly elected executives of the Mass Communication Students Association (MACSA), with a strong call for discipline, integrity, and academic excellence among students.
The inauguration ceremony, held on campus, brought together lecturers, students, and well-wishers to witness the swearing-in of the new executive committee. The event marked the beginning of a new leadership era within the department’s student body.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Dean of the School of Information and Communication Science, Mrs. Jovita Egondu, charged the newly inaugurated executives to uphold honesty, responsibility, and innovation in their leadership roles. She emphasized that Mass Communication students are expected to embody truth, professionalism, and values that contribute to national development both within and outside the academic environment.
The Head of Department, Mr. Jato Stephen, also addressed the gathering, urging the new student leaders to promote unity, academic excellence, and student welfare. He noted that the executives must serve as role models while actively contributing to the growth and development of the department.
In their acceptance speeches, the newly sworn-in MACSA executives pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on student welfare, academic advancement, practical journalism training, workshops, press club activities, and stronger industry engagement to expose students to real-world media practice.
Lecturers present at the event used the opportunity to caution students against examination malpractice and other forms of indiscipline. They reiterated that the department maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on examination misconduct, warning that any student found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The inauguration ceremony reflects the department’s renewed commitment to producing disciplined, responsible, and professionally trained media practitioners capable of contributing meaningfully to the communication industry and society at large.
