Everything You Need to Know About Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (OGITECH)

OGUN STATE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY IGBESA (FORMERLY GATEWAY (ICT) POLYTECHNIC, IGBESA) was established in 2005 with proactive effect from June 29, 2006. Gateway Polytechnic Enabling Law No. H. B. 29/OG/2005 was passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly. 

The law empowers the Institute to confer National and Higher National Diplomas, Certificates, and other academic distinctions on individuals who have pursued a course of study approved by the Institute under the supervision of our regulatory body (the National Board for Technical Education).

The polytechnic is hosted in Igbesa, a local government area of Ogun State. The Igbesa community is peaceful, with good security both on and off campus. Some of the common businesses in Igbesa are commercial banks, boutiques, fast foods, phone accessories, and photography, among others.

OGITECH PROGRAMMES:

Ogun State Institute of Technology runs two academic programs: full-time and part-time.

1. FULL-TIME PROGRAM

The full-time program is 2years of 4semesters, and lectures are held between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Candidates who sat for Jamb and participated in the school’s post-UTME screening exercise will be admitted to the full-time program.

2. PART-TIME PROGRAMME:

OGITECH part-time programs are 3 years of 6semesters, and lectures are held on weekends. This program is recommended for students who want to combine study with work. You don’t need to write Jamb to gain admission to OGITECH through the part-time program.

OGITECH ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:

The school is one of the best polytechnics in Nigeria, and they have a very fast academic calendar. The school has a student union (SUG), faculty, and student association, among others, which are responsible for running the affairs of the polytechnic students.

The polytechnic lecturers are strict, and they don’t tolerate lateness in the lecture room. The cost of handouts and textbooks in OGITECH ranges from #1,000 and above. Some of these handouts are made compulsory by the polytechnic lecturers. The school environment is cool and accommodating for students. The security both on and off campus is okay. There are two banks inside the school: Access Bank and Western Microfinance Bank.

The school authority doesn’t tolerate indecent dressing. In fact, there was a time when school security locked out some students from entering the campus because of the way they dressed. Some departments, like accounting and mass communication, have specific dress codes. Meanwhile, students are not allowed to bring their vehicles to campus.

OGITECH SCHOOL FEES.

School fees can be paid installmentally, that is, 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second semester. The school fees for the first year is #72,000 for ND and #80,000 for HND, while the acceptance fee for ND and HND is only #25,000. School fees for the second year are below #70,000 per session.

ACCOMMODATION

OGITECH doesn’t have a hostel for students, so students would have to seek accommodation off-campus, and the cost of accommodation in the polytechnic community ranges from 50k and above for single rooms to 150k and above for self-contained apartments. There may be some accommodations that are higher or lower than this figure, depending on their proximity to the institute.

ADMISSION TO OGITECH:

Admission to OGITECH is not difficult at all, and the cutoff mark is 120 for ND, while HND applicants must possess a minimum of lower credit in their National Diploma (ND) result. The school doesn’t offer admission to candidates with a CGPA below 2.50, except by luck. Meanwhile, you can gain admission to OGITECH without JAMB through the part-time program. 

The school doesn’t conduct entrance examinations for applicants, meaning no post-UTME exams for both ND and HND. What the school does is “screening exercise,” a process whereby your credentials will be vetted before you are offered admission. Admission to OGITECH is based on your credentials (O’level and JAMB result for ND; O’level and ND result for HND).

SCHOOLS AND DEPARTMENTS

OGITECH operates on one campus with various schools and departments. There are six schools (faculties) and over 20 departments in the institute: the school of Financial Management Studies, the School of Communication and Information Technology Studies, the School of Business and Management Studies, the School of Engineering Technology, the School of Environmental Studies, and the School of Pure and Applied Science. In summary, OGITECH is a great citadel of learning and one of the best state polytechnics in Nigeria. With 120 in UTME, you can gain admission to OGITECH. However, it is important to note that the school has zero tolerance for cultism and indecent dressing.
