BRIEF HISTORY.

Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade was established and commissioned on June 22, 2006, by the enabling law H.B. 30/OG/2005. Since then, the Polytechnic has grown from a toddler to become a giant and a major stakeholder in the education sector in the state.

At present, the Polytechnic has all its courses fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which cuts across the National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Part-Time. Also, the institution has deservedly earned the recognition of federal regulatory agencies like the NBTE, JAMB, WAEC, ITF, and TETFUND.

THE POLYTECHNIC.

Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade (GAPOSA) is located at Km 55 of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on the main campus. The polytechnic operates on two campuses: the main campus is located in Saapade, while the mini campus is at Aiyepe, a few kilometers from the main campus. The difference between the main campus and mini campus is class allocation, which means some departments like public administration and accounting receive lectures at the Ayiepe campus while other departments receive lectures at the main campus. Some of the popular buildings in the polytechnic are Onafowokan Hall, G-Block, the Admin Office, the Old Auditorium, the New Auditorium, etc.

THE POLYTECHNIC COMMUNITY.

Gateway Polytechnic is situated in Saapade, one of the local governments in Ogun State. The polytechnic community is dominated mostly by the Yoruba tribe and other ethnic groups. About 45% of the people living in the community (Saapade) are students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic. The businesses common in the polytechnic community are restaurants, fast-food businesses, okada transport businesses, POS businesses, cyber cafes, boutiques, etc.

GAPOSA PROGRAMMES.

GAPOSA runs basically three(3) programmes: full-time, evening, and weekend programmes.

1. FULL-TIME PROGRAMME.

The full-time students are regular students who were admitted directly through JAMB, that is, candidates who passed the school’s cutoff mark for admission consideration. The duration of this programme is 4 semesters of 2 years. The full-time programme is available at both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels.

2. THE PART-TIME EVENING PROGRAMME.

This programme is also known as weekday part-time. It is still the same as a full-time program in the sense that lectures are held on weekdays, that is, Monday to Thursday, and the duration of the programme is 2 years. This Programme is like direct entry as you can gain admission with or without JAMB. Lectures are held in the evening. It is recommended for students who would like to combine study with work. However, the evening programme is not available for all courses. Moreso, the GAPOSA evening programme is available only at the National Diploma (ND) level. This programme is 2 years of 6 semesters.

3. PART-TIME WEEKEND PROGRAMME. 

The part-time or weekend Programme is for working-class students, especially those who want to further their education without affecting their work or business. Lectures are held on weekends (Friday and Saturday). The weekend programme is available at both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels. JAMB is not a requirement for this programme; that is, with or without Jamb, you can gain admission to GAPOSA weekend programmes. The school fees are affordable. The difference between the weekend programme and other programmes is school fees and the time during which the students receive lectures. The same certificate that full-time students get is the same certificate that evening and weekend programme students will get. The weekend programme is two(2) years.

Differences and similarities Between the full-time and part-time programmes

  • Full-time is 2 years of 4 semesters, while part-time is 2 years of 6 semesters.
  • Full-time students pay school fees twice (Years I and II), while part-time students pay the school fees three times (Years 1, 2, and 3).
  • Part-time school fees are more expensive than full-time school fees.
  • Full-time students receive lectures in the morning, while part-time students receive lectures in the evening and on weekends.
  • Part-time students pay an administrative fee of #15,000, while full-time students pay an administrative fee of #19,500.
  • Both full-time and part-time students pay acceptance fees of #30,000

GAPOSA ADMISSION.

Admission to Gateway ICT Polytechnic is very straightforward and not strict; provided you already obtained a minimum of 5 credits at O’level and scored over 120 in your UTME, you may be considered for admission to GAPOSA.

NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) ADMISSION.

To gain admission to GAPOSA full-time programme at the ND level, you must have scored at least 120 in your UTME and obtained a minimum of 5 credits at O-level in no more than two sittings. You can choose GAPOSA as either your first or second choice. After making the institution your choice, you would have to obtain the institution’s POST-UTME form, and after obtaining the form, you will be invited for a POST-UTME screening, which is usually done via computer-based testing (CBT). From there, you will be invited for an oral interview, if you pass the school’s POST-UTME, you will be offered admission. After you might have gotten your admission, you will need to proceed for screening, where you will be cleared at the admission office, and from there, you are now a bona  student of Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) ADMISSION.

GAPOSA offers admission to both her product and candidates who finished their ND at another NBTE-approved institution. Applicants must have obtained a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects at not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB. In addition to 5 credits at O-level, applicants are required to earn a minimum of lower credit at National Diploma level. However, candidates with a pass may be considered for admission with evidence of two years of industrial training. The school also conducts entrance examinations and screenings for HND applicants. Candidates who pass the school screening or entrance exams will be offered admission to the polytechnic.

GAPOSA SCHOOL FEES.

Gateway ICT Polytechnic School fees range from #60,000 to #80,000 depending on your programme, department, and level. ND full-time students pay #60,000 per session for the first year and #5,000 for the second year, while HND full-time students pay #65,000 per session for the first year and #60,000 for the second year. The acceptance fee is #30,000 only for ND and HND.

PART-TIME SCHOOL FEE

Since the programme is 2 years and 6 semesters, the students will pay for 3 academic sessions, that is, year I, II, and III. PT students pay #61,600 for Year 1, #50,000 for Year II, and #50,000 for Year III. The fees are being paid per session.

Other fees that GAPOSA students pay are SUG dues, which costs #500, and departmental dues, which range from #2,500 to #3,000. Part-time students pay an admin fee of #15,000, while full-time students pay an admin fee of #19,500. Matric Fee = #3,000 and ID Card fee = #1,50. Only.

GAPOSA ACCOMMODATION.

The polytechnic does not have hostels inside the school, which means that students will have to get accommodation outside the campus. A room self-contained apartment in GAPOSA ranges from 150K and above per year, while single rooms range from 50K and above. Some of the locations in Saapade where students dominate the most are OTP, Winners, Ishara, Ipara, Ode, etc.

Gaposa Lecturers and Academic Activities.

The polytechnic lecturers are friendly and jovial, and they don’t mandate handouts and textbooks for students. Academic results are always released on both the notice board and online towards the end of the semester. The polytechnic has a zero-tolerance tolerance for examination malpractices and indecent dressing. The school’s security will embarrass you if you don’t dress and behave in a decent manner. The cost of textbooks ranges from #1,000 and above.
