Everything You Need to Know About Crown Polytechnic Odo, Ado-Ekiti (Odo Poly)

Crown Polytechnic is located at Kilometer 10, Ilawe Road, Odo, P.M.B. 5424, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The vision of the institution is to have a polytechnic that is international in scope and cosmopolitan in outlook.

THE POLYTECHNIC COMMUNITY.

Crown Polytechnic is hosted in Odo, Ado, one of the local governments in Ekiti State. The community is small and peaceful, with a low crime rate. Both academic and nonacademic activities are going on peacefully as of the time this article was written. The common businesses in the community are farming, restaurants, POS, charging of phones, etc.

CROWN POLYTECHNIC PROGRAMMES.

The polytechnic offers full-time and part-time programmes at both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels.

1. FULL-TIME PROGRAMME: The full-time program is 2 years and consists of lectures from 8 a.m. to 6pm, Monday through Friday. The programme is meant for candidates who sat for JAMB and meet the minimum requirements as contained in the JAMB brochure.

2. PART-TIME PROGRAMME: The Crown Polytechnic part-time programme is recommended for working-class students, that is, students who want to combine study with work. Lectures are held on weekends (Friday and Saturday). The duration of this programme is 2 years and 6 semesters.

CROWN POLYTECHNIC SCHOOL FEES.

School fees can be paid per semester or per session, depending on your capacity. ND full-time programme school fees are #80,000 per session, while HND full-time programme fees are #100,000 per session. Part-time programme school fees are #110,000 to #120,000 per session.

The school fees can be paid in installments, that is, 50% in the first semester and 50% in the second semester. The school is very strict with their school fees, so it is possible you may not be allowed to write examinations without paying half of your school fees. Acceptance fee is just #10,000, while the admission form costs just #5,500.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES.

Crown Polytechnic is one of the best and fastest private polytechnics in Nigeria, as the school doesn’t delay academic activities at all. The polytechnic also conducts summer examinations for students who missed their exams for one reason or another. This means that, if possible, if you couldn’t sit for an examination because of financial reasons or due to health issues, you will be able to write the examination again a few months after the conclusion of the main exam. If you miss the exams for batch A, you will sit for batch B. At least this will save you from having a carryover, which might cost you an extra year.

The polytechnic lecturers are friendly, and likewise the polytechnic staff; they treat their students like their own children, which is very uncommon in other schools. If there are some topics that aren’t clear to you, you can easily walk up to the lecturer’s office for more explanation, and they will teach you till you understand. Handouts are sold for a maximum of #1,000.

Some of the popular buildings in the polytechnic are the administration building, health center, academic block, part-time building, school hall, library, mini market, etc.

There is no students’ union in the institution, but there are class governors and departmental presidents.

ACCOMMODATION.

Accommodation at Crown Polytechnic is cheap, maybe due to the location of the school. Single rooms in the polytechnic community range from #30,000 to #40,000 per session, while self-contained apartments range from #70k and above per year. There are also hostels inside the school for students who can’t afford accommodation off-campus. The cost per bed space at the school hostel is #15,000 per session. Some of the popular locations in Odo Poly where students dominate the most are HND villa, RCCG street, ATM, Beauty Face 1, 2, 3, Joy Base, etc.

CROWN POLY ADMISSION.

Admission to crown poly is straightforward, provided candidates already possess five (5) credits in relevant subjects at not more than two o’level sittings.

1. ND ADMISSION: Candidates must have sat for the last UTME and obtained a minimum score of 120 plus 5 credits at O’Level, including English language and mathematics. The polytechnic accepts awaiting results on the condition that the results will be tendered before the completion of the ND programme.

2. HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) Admission: The polytechnic accepts candidates from other schools, including her own. To gain admission to the HND programme, applicants must possess all the requirements for the ND programme in addition to their ND result. However, candidates with a CGPA below 2.50 may have to provide evidence of two (2) years of industrial training to be considered for admission.

In addition, the polytechnic does not conduct entrance examinations for students; what they do is screen your credentials.

Can I gain admission to Crown Polytechnic without JAMB?

Yes, you can gain admission to the part-time programme,as it does not require JAMB and likewise the full-time programme, but you may have to do JAMB regularization later.

CHALLENGES AT CROWN POLY.

There are no banks in the polytechnic community, so students have no choice but to use POS for withdrawals and transactions. However, there are banks in Ado-Ekiti, a few kilometers from the polytechnic. The cost of transportation from the polytechnic to town (Ado) is #500 to and fro.
