We are now living in an era where people think being single is abnormal, which isn’t so. Many people are single; some are searching, some are in serious relationships, and some are just passing by. The expectation of the society we live in now is that a girl and boy of 16 and above should be in a serious relationship that will lead to marriage; unfortunately, things don’t work that way, so they end up being single.
Being single is unavoidable at some point in our lives, and it’s not as bad as people paint it. What if I told you that being single has lots of benefits? Also, it is one of the sweetest things because you wouldn’t have to worry about girlfriend stress or boyfriend problems.
If you are single and this is giving you depression because almost all your friends are already in a relationship or happily married, I will highlight 15 benefits and advantages of being single from my experience.
1. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PERSONAL SPACE.
No need of asking for a space from your partner. You have your own personal space. Imagine having a partner who comes to visit anytime they like, even when it’s not convenient for you. Being single gives you your personal space.
2. YOU CAN FLIRT WITH ANYONE.
One of the benefits of being single is that you can flirt with anyone you like without feeling guilty that you cheated on your partner. You can even knack any woman you like and hold any cassava of your choice, and nobody will question you.
3. YOU DON’T HAVE TO INFORM OR UPDATE ABOUT EVERY DAMN THING.
Being in a relationship means “us” and “we,” which means you would have to update your significant other about every damn update of your day-to-day activities. For instance, if you are moving out of town, going to a party, and visiting a friend, this is where the advantage of being single comes in because you don’t need to update a damn thing.
4. YOU CAN WATCH SPORTS WEB SERIES WITHOUT BEING DISTURBED.
Nobody disturbs you while you watch your favorite TV series or sports. When in a relationship, you have to consider your partner, and this could be particularly disturbing if you are a movie or sports fan. My partner did disturb me when watching American movies on TV; she prefers Korean dramas, so I had no option but to succumb just to make them happy. But ever since I became single, I have enjoyed watching sports and web series without being disturbed by anyone.
5. YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO.
Relationships could be frustrating if your partner is the jealous type. They will always be eager to know who you were talking to on the phone and what the discussion was all about. Being single gives you the flexibility to talk to anyone you like without feeling guilty or worrying about who you’re talking to.
6. YOU CAN SPEND TIME ON YOURSELF.
Relationships eat up a lot of time spent talking on the phone, texting, and chatting with your partner. Being single will give you the opportunity to spend this time on yourself. That is, you don’t need to worry about somebody’s son or someone’s daughter somewhere. In general, relationships are a distraction, so being single saves you from the temptation of losing focus and allows you to spend more time on yourself. By the way, you have time for your family and friends.
7. YOU CAN SLEEP WHEN YOU FEEL SLEEPY, NOT WHEN YOUR PARTNER FEELS ASLEEP.
When you are in a relationship, you need to keep the vibe going, especially the communication part. At times, you will feel sleepy, and your partner may want to keep the conversation going. Well, this is one of the benefits of being single: you sleep when you like, not when your boyfriend or girlfriend is asleep. Isn’t that great?
8. YOU CAN FINALLY FOCUS ON YOUR DREAMS AND HOBBIES.
Being single is adorable, as it helps you focus more on your dreams and hobbies. For example, if your dream is to become the best student in your department, you will have enough time to read rather than spend that time with your partner. Single life has brought the best version of myself as I was able to focus more on my dreams.
9. YOU LEARN THE MEANING OF SELF-LOVE.
One of the crucial advantages of being single is learning self-love. You can’t love others if you don’t learn how to love yourself first. People who are single perfectly understand the importance of self-love. You could buy yourself whatever you desire, eat what you like, and spoil yourself with your own money.
10. YOU GET TO SAVE MORE MONEY.
Another benefit of being single is that you have the opportunity to save more money, which is great for your financial growth. There won’t be anything like dates, birthday surprises, gifts, or allowances for your partner, and this will save you from unnecessary spending. Being single has really helped my financial growth because I no longer waste money buying airtime and data to call my partner. Besides, I can use the money on something else that will benefit my life.
11. WAITING FOR THE RIGHT PERSON.
Being single also implies waiting for the right person. Although there is no perfect person anywhere, if you are patient enough, you will surely meet your soulmate because single life will give you a rare opportunity to carefully pick out the qualities you want in your future partner.
12. MEETING DIFFERENT PEOPLE
You can meet and make friends with different people and also have as much fun as you like without the headache of staying committed, and you owe nobody an explanation. Moreso, you do not have to consider another person when making decisions concerning your life.
Many people are stuck in relationships with strict rules. You can’t go out, you can’t make friends, and you can’t even make a phone call in privacy. This can drive humans nuts as it’s our nature to seek freedom and space wherever we may find them, and being single gives room for that as you have the freedom and independence to live alone without depending on one another.
14. SAVE YOURSELF FROM HEARTBREAK.
Many of us have experienced heartbreak before, haven’t we? Imagine the pain, the guilt, the regrets, and the emotional abuse that come with relationships. Well, if you are just healing from one or are not ready to be served another breakfast anytime soon, it’s better you stay single until you find true love and are ready to love again. Being single gives you room to heal from a broken heart and also saves you from heartbreak, jealousy, and insecurity in a relationship.
15. THERE IS NO NEED TO BECOME AN FBI AGENT.
Ever feel like an FBI agent monitoring your spouse’s phone and social media activities, wanting to know who they’re chatting with and what they post on their status? This could give you sleepless nights and headaches going through their phone just to ensure cheating isn’t happening.
