YOU MUST JUSTIFY THE CONFIDENCE REPOSE IN YOU: Prof. Mohammed Kabir Yakubu charges 670 new Matriculates
The Director-General, Chief Executive Officer NILEST, Prof. Mohammed Kabir Yakubu has charged that the 670 new Matriculates into the Institute Campus must justify the confidence reposed in them not only by their parents but also by society
The DG made the call during his matriculation ceremony speech delivered at the 2023-2024 matriculation ceremony and orientation programme, which was held in the institute on the 14th day of June 2024. According to him, the Institute, being the only stand-alone of its kind in the West Africa sub-Saharan region, is committed to fostering an environment conducive to learning, self-discovery, and personal development. He added that matriculation into tertiary institutions is beyond formality but a rite of passage that signifies when boys and girls become men and women because, it is believed that they are mature physically, spiritually and socially to be able to make the right decisions and choices at any given time.
Prof. Yakubu while congratulating the students for successfully passing through the numerous screening processes which preceded their final selection to pursue various chosen courses of instruction being offered by the Institute warned, that “as you are rejoicing at your admission into NILEST, you must recognise that by coming here you accepting a challenge and you must brace yourself for hard work and diligence” He therefore advised that the students must carry themselves with dignity, respectability, and decorum expected of mature minds in order to justify the confidence reposed in them by the society. He warned them also to shun all acts of criminality, which includes but not limited to examination malpractice, and embrace the practices of virtues as NILEST has zero tolerance for unruled behaviour. The DG, therefore, charged that the students must strive to always obey rules and regulations.
