YABATECH Strengthens AI Education with High-Impact Training for Students and Staff

The Yaba College of Technology has taken a major step toward advancing artificial intelligence education in Nigeria by hosting a large-scale training focused on the responsible use of AI technologies.
The one-day intensive programme brought together over 300 participants, including staff, students, and alumni, highlighting the institution’s growing commitment to digital innovation and future-ready education. The initiative was organized in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, reinforcing international cooperation in technology and education.
The training sessions focused on key areas shaping the future of AI adoption, including ethical considerations, responsible deployment of AI tools, cybersecurity awareness, and data privacy. These topics are increasingly critical as artificial intelligence continues to transform industries such as finance, healthcare, education, and digital marketing.
Speaking during the programme, Rector Ibraheem Abdul emphasized the institution’s strategic vision to integrate emerging technologies into its academic framework. He noted that equipping students with practical AI knowledge is essential to preparing them for high-demand careers in a rapidly evolving global economy. He also stressed the importance of combining technical expertise with integrity and social responsibility.
The event also featured insights from Omoju Miller, a leading voice in the global tech ecosystem and Chief Executive Officer of FIMIO. She encouraged participants to go beyond simply using foreign-developed technologies and instead position themselves as innovators and contributors within the global AI space.
According to her, Nigeria and Africa at large have significant potential to shape the future of artificial intelligence, particularly by developing locally relevant solutions that address real-world challenges. She urged young professionals and students to build skills in machine learning, data science, and AI-driven problem solving to remain competitive in high-paying global tech roles.
This initiative aligns with the growing demand for AI expertise across industries, where professionals with skills in automation, data analytics, and intelligent systems command some of the highest-paying jobs worldwide. By investing in AI education, YABATECH is positioning its graduates to tap into lucrative career opportunities in fields such as software engineering, fintech, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
The training marks another milestone in the institution’s broader strategy to modernize its curriculum and strengthen its role as a leading hub for technological advancement in Nigeria. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the future of work, initiatives like this ensure that Nigerian students are not left behind but are instead equipped to lead in the global digital economy.
