The Federal Polytechnic Ohodo in Enugu State has successfully organized a detailed orientation programme aimed at equipping newly admitted students with the knowledge and guidance required for a successful academic journey.
The event, held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the institution’s takeoff campus, brought together members of the Polytechnic’s management, principal officers, deans, directors, heads of departments, and a large number of enthusiastic fresh students. The programme was carefully structured to introduce students to the institution’s culture, academic expectations, and administrative processes.
Proceedings began with the formal introduction of key officials by the Public Relations Officer, Anyanwu Chigoziem, setting the stage for an interactive session designed to familiarize students with the Polytechnic’s core values and operational framework.
In his welcome address, the Rector, Dr. Ediri Emmanuel Agada, congratulated the students on securing admission and emphasized the importance of the orientation as a foundation for both academic success and personal development. He encouraged students to uphold integrity, discipline, and responsibility, while remaining security-conscious and proactive in reporting suspicious activities. He also stressed the need for proper identification on campus and advised students to channel their concerns through appropriate leadership structures. The Rector further highlighted an ongoing scholarship initiative aimed at supporting prospective students enrolling in newly introduced programmes.
Speaking on examination guidelines and academic expectations, the Deputy Rector and Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Cornelius Ogayi, reminded students that the Polytechnic’s certification reflects not only academic performance but also character and skills. He urged them to take their studies seriously, develop effective learning habits, and make full use of available academic resources.
The Registrar, Dr. Obini Onuchukwu, delivered a presentation covering the institution’s mission, vision, documentation procedures, and general rules and regulations. He emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the Students’ Handbook while maintaining good character alongside academic excellence. He also assured students of accessible administrative support through an open-door policy.
In her remarks, the Bursar, Mrs. Umolaojo Angela Sani, highlighted the importance of timely payment of school fees, noting that it is essential for maintaining full student status and avoiding disruptions in academic activities.
The Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Albert Obiora Elejene, encouraged students to develop a strong reading culture and take advantage of the institution’s modern library facilities. He also revealed plans to expand digital access through enhanced e-library services.
A major highlight of the programme was the introduction and inauguration of the Students’ Union Government caretaker executives. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Anthony Ogbuene, formally presented the executives, after which they were sworn in by the Registrar.
In his inaugural address, the Students’ Union President, Nnadi Charles Ifeanyi, pledged responsible leadership and constructive engagement with the Polytechnic management. The Dean of Student Affairs further charged the executives to uphold transparency and accountability while promoting unity among students. He also advised all students to avoid social vices and take advantage of available support initiatives, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, to ease financial challenges.
Additional insights were provided by the Director of SIWES, Dr. Akujiobi Chiedoziem, who educated students on key academic requirements such as the mandatory Industrial Training programme for National Diploma students, as well as expectations regarding discipline, dress code, and general conduct.
The session was further enriched by goodwill messages from deans and directors, offering practical guidance to help students navigate their academic journey successfully.
In a vote of thanks, the Students’ Union Secretary General, Onuh Patrick Chidera, expressed appreciation to the Polytechnic management for organizing the programme and reaffirmed the students’ commitment to upholding institutional values.
