The Implications of Living a Fake Life

A fake life is a life built on lies and false pretenses. People who live a fake life look happy and original to the public, but deep down, they are nothing and not original. Although the reasons why people live fake lives vary, these implications can’t be overemphasized. The reasons why people live a fake life are as listed below:

1. IMPRESSION.

People who live a fake life mostly do that to impress and please others. They can go to any length to prove to the world their originality. They prefer to borrow new clothes and wear them just to impress others. People see them as rich, but in reality they are poor. A case study of this is a student who scammed his parents at home to look rich in school. He would tell all sorts of lies to get money to buy the latest gadget, just to be among the big boys on campus. All they want is to fake their life to impress others.

2. SOCIAL MEDIA.

Social media is full of fake people. It is the only platform that breeds unoriginality, where you see someone with a broken home giving advice on how to fix their home. Due to pressure on cyberspace, social media has pushed many people to live fake lives. Those who live a fake life on social media do that to oppress others and score cheap goals for themselves.

They want to be seen as an accomplished and successful person, so they live a fake lifestyle just to get noticed by their family and friends. Some of them will make videos of themselves in nice apartments, which might be rented to look rich. Some will even borrow money to buy expensive dresses to do photoshoots to post online, but if you see them in real life, you will be shocked. It’s all because they want to be seen as big boys and girls. The implications of living a fake life on social media is that nobody will believe you once your true self is exposed and you might be chasing your helpers away from you. There is nothing as good as originality. Fake things don’t last.

I recall a friend who messaged me with his international number, claiming to have traveled out of the country and posting a video of himself chilling on the plane on social media. It was a shame for him when we met face-to-face in a bank, as he couldn’t hide. I asked him when he returned from the US. He confessed he only traveled from Akure to Lagos by air, and the international WhatsApp number was a Google Voice number. We both laughed and went our separate ways. Now you should know that I can never trust or believe such a friend in my life. No matter how good you appear to people online with your fake lifestyle, one day you will surely be exposed. Try to be original because there is nothing to gain with a fake life.

Perhaps you always get depressed by the achievements of your friends on social media, I hope you know that it is not everything you see on social media that is real. Have you not seen kidnappers and drug lords dropping motivational quotes and videos online like “Hustle Hustle”, making you think that you are not serious about your life? If they weren’t arrested, we wouldn’t have known their true source of money.

3. LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS.

Some people also live a fake life because of the opposite sex. They want to be seen as the good guy and good wife material, so they hide their true self just to gain trust. They are the kinds of men who lie about their education and their jobs just to woo a woman. They might even lie about their state of origin and deny the existence of their parents just to be accepted by the opposite sex. But think about this, what will gain if you lie and fake your life because of a man/woman? That same relationship you built on lies will never last, and even if it leads to marriage, once your true self is revealed, the marriage will crash. Why should I lie about my work for you to fall for me? See dear, there is no point in borrowing a car to lure women. There is no point in lying to do things that displease you because you want to be accepted by a man or woman. Fake life never lasts. The best thing is to build originality.

How do I know if I’m living a fake life?

(I) LIES. If you tell all sorts of lies about your life and brag about things, you don’t have. It’s evidence that you are living a fake life. My father is this and my mother is that when you know that you are a fat liar. Putting on designer clothes and other things you know you can’t afford, renting an apartment you can’t afford just to appear rich to people is a fake life, and you might end up shooting yourself. How? Because you will end up doing illegal business-like fraud, hookups, and robbery to get money to upkeep your fake life. Life is stage by stage. You should not fake your life to impress others. Originality is the best.

(II) RELIGION.

It is funny how you created different channels online preaching the gospel and teaching the word of God. You come to the pulpit to preach. People see you as anointed and blessed, but you have slept with almost all the women in your fellowship and congregation. You will even criticize others about their lifestyle, but yours is nothing to write home about. Single at home but married in school. This is a fake life, but you are a saint because you have not been caught yet. Well, it is not too late to make amends before God exposes you himself. Remember, fake life doesn’t last.

(III) YOU RESPECT OTHERS, BUT YOU DISRESPECT YOUR PARENTS.

A typical example of a fake life is a person who respects other people but disrespects their own people. If you can go on your knees to greet your pastor and imam but find it difficult to respect your parents and family, it shows you are just living a fake life. You shouted at your parents and found it difficult to assist them, but you were quick in assisting other people and turned a blind eye to your own parents, who needed your assistance the most. You posted photos of yourself donating to an orphanage in order to score cheap goals in the community while your family and friends are starving. Some have a wife and kids at home yet refuse to take responsibility, but they can spend their last penny on external family and affairs. This is nothing but a fake life because people see you as a caring person, but ask yourself, are you truly a caring person? No! It’s a fake life. You had better make adjustments today because fake things don’t last.

(IV) EDUCATION.

You should do what works for you and what is best for you, not what the masses do. You need to understand your primary assignment on campus, so you should not digress. Why would you sleep with a lecturer in exchange for grades? Why bribe lecturers for grades? Is it because that is what others are doing? I hope the purpose of doing all these is not to appear like a genius to others. Deep down, you know you are fake, and all those grades are scams. Even if you bribe to get grades, you can hardly bribe to get a job, so why all these fake lifestyles?

You lied to your parents and made them shallow in borrowing and debt just to compete with other students on campus. You joined the hookup and fraud gang simply to belong and compete with others. Common courtesy: life is not always about competition, so copy what suits you and not what suits others. Fake life is temporary and not permanent. The original life is the best.

The implication of living a fake life.

The implications of living a fake lifestyle are regret, shame, and a lack of trust. People that are supposed to help you will not do that because they believe that you are above their standard. In fact, asking for help will be difficult for you because you are the opposite of yourself, and this could lead to depression. Your fake life will make you miss so many opportunities as people will abandon you once they identify your true self. For example, suppose you have to hide when you see your friends because you don’t want them to know where you are living your fictitious life, but how long will you do this? Take it or leave it, the original lifestyle is the best. If you don’t want to end up with regret and shame, stay away from fake life.
