Polytechnics that offer ND/HND Computer Science with their Entry Requirements

The National Diploma programme is designed to produce diplomates capable of applying computer in various areas of computing. 

Diplomates of this programme should be able to:-

• Operate Computer systems.
• Use various Computer packages. 
• Maintain hardware. 
• Solve simple hardware problems. 
• Use various programming languages.
• Visual BASIC 
• JAVA 
• C Programming
• Unified Modelling Language (UML)
• Hyper Text Mark-up Language
• Use Internet
• Set up Network.
• Set up and manage an enterprise.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

The entry requirements into National Diploma Computer Science programme are as follows: –

a) Five credit level passes in GCE “O” level, Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO and NABTEB at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include:

• I. English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other subjects chosen from the following:
• II. Economics, Geography,
• III. Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,
• IV. Biology/Agricultural Science.
• V. A Pass in Physics is compulsory for

• VI. Computer Science.
• VII. And Relevant NTC/NBC & NVC Trades
• Plus JAMB Examination as resolved by National Policy on Education.

b) A pass in Computer Foundation Examination (CFE) of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). The student must be prima facie qualified as in (a) above.

HND Graduates of this programme should be able to: 

• Manage and optimize Operating Systems
• Design and implement programs for solving problems
• Manage computer installations and ICT centres
• Troubleshoot Computer Installations. 
• Carry out routine maintenance of Computer facilities
• Setup and manage Network Systems
• Design and manage Database systems
• Expand Business Enterprise 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA:

The minimum entry requirement into the Higher National Diploma in Computer Science is as follows:

a) The National Diploma in Computer Science obtained from an accredited programme, with at least the lower credit pass or 

b) The Nigerian certificates in Education with major in Computer Education, at not more than the merit level pass

c) CPE I of CPN with at least the lower Credit. 

In addition to (a), (b) and (c) above the candidate must have acquired not less than one year post ND/NCE/PCE I cognate work experience. In exceptional cases, ND diplomats with a pass (CGPA of 2.0-2.49) in the ND examination with two or more years of cognate experience in the specific field may be considered for admission into the HND programme.
