Niger State Polytechnic Launches Vocational Skills Programme to Empower Youth with Entrepreneurship Training

The Rector of Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, Amb. Ibrahim Umar Kontagora (PhD), has officially flagged off the VTSP Vocational Training Skills Programme, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to equipping young people with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.

The flag-off ceremony brought together participants, management officials and stakeholders as the Polytechnic commenced another initiative aimed at promoting skills acquisition and reducing unemployment among Nigerian youths.

In his welcome address, the Director of the Skills Development Centre, Dr. Abubakar Nagya, welcomed participants to the training programme and urged them to remain disciplined, committed and focused throughout the exercise.

He encouraged the trainees to maximize the opportunity by giving their best to every aspect of the programme, noting that the vocational skills they acquire could serve as a foundation for financial independence and long-term career growth.

Speaking at the event, the Digital Rector commended N-SIPA for introducing the vocational training initiative, describing it as a strategic investment in youth empowerment and national development.

Dr. Kontagora urged participants to approach the training with determination, dedication and a genuine desire to learn, emphasizing that the programme is designed to produce entrepreneurs capable of creating employment opportunities rather than depending solely on white-collar jobs.

He further advised the trainees to embrace innovation, hard work and excellence throughout the training, stressing that practical skills remain one of the most effective tools for tackling unemployment and driving economic growth.

The Rector also reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to supporting programmes that combine academic learning with hands-on vocational training to prepare students and young people for the realities of today’s labour market.

He officially welcomed all participants to Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, expressing confidence that the knowledge and experience gained during the programme would positively impact their personal and professional lives.

The VTSP Vocational Training Skills Programme is expected to provide participants with practical knowledge in various vocational fields while strengthening entrepreneurship development and promoting self-employment among young Nigerians.

The event was announced by the Head of Media and Publicity Unit, Office of the Digital Rector, Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, Salihu Oranga.
