Kano State Polytechnic Boosts Campus Security With New Motorcycles, CCTV and Modern Security Gadgets

Kano State Polytechnic has taken a major step toward improving campus safety with the distribution of eight newly branded motorcycles and modern security equipment to strengthen security operations across its campuses.
The initiative, approved by the institution’s management under the leadership of Rector Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, is part of the 2026 TETFund Special Intervention under the Security Master Plan for Nigerian Tertiary Institutions (SEMPOTI). The intervention is designed to enhance security infrastructure and improve the protection of lives and property in higher education institutions across Nigeria.
During the official presentation of the motorcycles to directors of the Polytechnic’s seven unit schools and the Central Administration, the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Maryam Kabir, represented the Rector and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
She explained that the motorcycles have been dedicated solely to security operations and will remain under the supervision of the Chief Security Officers assigned to each unit school. According to her, the equipment is expected to improve surveillance, increase response time during emergencies, and strengthen overall security across the institution.
Dr. Maryam urged security personnel to use the motorcycles and other newly provided security equipment responsibly, emphasizing that proper maintenance and effective deployment would help maximize the benefits of the investment. She also expressed optimism about the continued growth of Kano State Polytechnic while assuring staff of the management’s continued support for campus security initiatives.
Speaking at the event, the Registrar, Mukhtar Ibrahim Bello, popularly known as Falakin Kano, commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for supporting the Polytechnic through the security intervention programme.
He revealed that the 2026 intervention extends beyond the provision of motorcycles. It also includes specialized training for security personnel, installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance cameras at strategic locations across all unit schools, the supply of new security uniforms, and the distribution of modern security gadgets to enhance operational efficiency.
The Registrar encouraged members of the institution’s security team to ensure the facilities are used effectively, noting that the investments are expected to significantly improve campus safety and provide a more secure environment for students, lecturers, staff, and visitors.
The latest security upgrade reflects Kano State Polytechnic’s ongoing efforts to strengthen campus security through modern technology, improved mobility, and enhanced capacity building for security personnel, ensuring a safer academic environment for the entire Polytechnic community.
