Mountain Top University Best Graduating Student Emerges With 4.94 CGPA as Institution Marks 10 Years of Academic Excellence

Mountain Top University, Ogun State, has announced Miss Akinyemi Omolola Faith of the Department of Mathematics as its best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, after she recorded an exceptional Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.94.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elijah Ayolabi, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the university ahead of its seventh Convocation Ceremony and 10th anniversary scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Speaking with journalists, the Vice-Chancellor described the academic feat as a clear demonstration of the university’s commitment to quality education, rigorous standards and student excellence. He revealed that a total of 346 students would be graduating across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes during the ceremony.

According to him, 42 students earned First Class honours, 124 graduated with Second Class Upper, 102 obtained Second Class Lower, while 14 students completed their programmes with Third Class degrees. He confirmed that Miss Akinyemi Omolola Faith topped the graduating class with a CGPA of 4.94 in Mathematics.

Professor Ayolabi also disclosed that 64 postgraduate students would be awarded higher degrees, comprising nine Doctor of Philosophy graduates, 28 Master’s degree holders, two MBA graduates and 25 Postgraduate Diploma recipients.

He noted that the upcoming convocation would be historic, as it marks the first doctoral hooding ceremony in the history of Mountain Top University, describing it as a major milestone in the institution’s decade-long journey.

Reflecting on the university’s growth since its establishment in 2015, the Vice-Chancellor stated that Mountain Top University currently runs 37 fully accredited academic programmes across three colleges, with plans underway to introduce Colleges of Law and Engineering.

He added that the institution now has a student population of about 2,000, supported by over 200 academic and non-academic staff, alongside modern learning facilities that meet international standards.

Professor Ayolabi further revealed that all academic programmes recently assessed by the National Universities Commission received full accreditation, attributing the achievement to the university’s strong quality assurance framework.

On research performance and global visibility, he said Mountain Top University ranked first in Nigeria for Quality Education under Sustainable Development Goal 4, second for Good Health and Well-Being under SDG 3, and third for Zero Hunger under SDG 2 in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

He explained that the rankings reflect the institution’s growing reputation as a research-driven and socially responsive university. He also highlighted major research grants and partnerships, including a €500,000 Max Planck–Humboldt Grant secured by a faculty member to establish a cancer genomics laboratory.

According to him, the university has continued to strengthen collaborations with higher institutions and research centres across the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia to enhance innovation, funding opportunities and academic exchange.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that the seventh Convocation Lecture, titled “Dream Big, Start Small, and God Will Lift You to the Highest Point Possible,” would be delivered by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.

He reiterated that the university’s vision is to produce graduates who are intellectually sound, morally disciplined, entrepreneurial and socially responsible, while positioning Mountain Top University among the leading universities in Africa and the world.

Professor Ayolabi thanked members of the media for their continued support and invited the public to participate in the convocation activities celebrating a decade of academic excellence, faith-driven leadership and national impact at Mountain Top University.
