Kano State Polytechnic Partners JOSTUM to Launch Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

Kano State Polytechnic has expanded its academic offerings through a strategic partnership with Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), to commence Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes in Management and Social Sciences.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on April 17, 2026, at the university’s liaison office in Abuja, marks a major milestone in the Polytechnic’s drive to enhance academic excellence and provide more flexible learning opportunities for students, particularly through part-time programmes under the School of Continuing Education and Postgraduate Studies.
The Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, described the agreement as a transformative step that will broaden access to postgraduate education and strengthen the institution’s academic capacity.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of JOSTUM, Professor (Engr.) Isaac Nathaniel Itodo, the Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Raphael A. Ofukwu, commended the Polytechnic’s leadership for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to quality education. He revealed that the partnership followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the university’s affiliation team between December 11 and 13, 2025, which resulted in a favorable assessment and approval of the collaboration.
He noted that the partnership will enable students to advance their academic careers within a structured and recognized framework, while also promoting knowledge exchange and institutional development between both institutions.
In his response, the Rector expressed appreciation to the university’s management for approving the affiliation request, stating that the collaboration would open new academic pathways and empower students with relevant knowledge and professional skills.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the affiliation team and stakeholders whose contributions made the partnership possible.
The agreement covers a wide range of Postgraduate Diploma programmes designed to meet current market demands and enhance employability. The approved courses include Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance, Information Technology and Management, Agricultural Marketing, Community Development, Social Work, Local Government Studies, Accounting and Finance, Business Administration and Management, Public Administration and Human Resource Management, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Marketing, and Cooperatives and Economic Management.
Key members of the Polytechnic’s management team who witnessed the signing ceremony include the Director of the School of Continuing Education and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Ramatu Adamu Mohammed; the Director of Consultancy Services, Dr. Awaisu Adamu Salihi; and the Coordinator of Programme Visitation, Muhammad Abubakar Hotoro.
This partnership reinforces Kano State Polytechnic’s commitment to expanding access to quality postgraduate education, promoting professional development, and aligning its academic programmes with global standards and industry needs.
