Jigawa State Polytechnic Honours Staff Member for Rejecting ₦1 Million Bribe to Alter HND Result

The Governing Council of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, has commended a staff member, Mr. Shamsuddeen Hussaini, for demonstrating exceptional integrity after rejecting a ₦1 million bribe allegedly offered to compromise the academic integrity of a Higher National Diploma (HND) result.
The decision was reached during the Council’s 9th Regular Meeting held on July 3, 2026, where members directed the institution’s management to formally notify the Jigawa State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MOHEST) of Mr. Hussaini’s exemplary conduct and recommend him for official recognition.
The development was disclosed by the Polytechnic’s Registrar, Mallam Ismaila Umar, while addressing journalists in his office on Monday, July 13, 2026.
According to the Registrar, the Governing Council received the report of Mr. Hussaini’s actions with immense pride, describing his honesty, diligence, and unwavering commitment to the institution’s core values as worthy of commendation.
Mallam Umar explained that Mr. Hussaini, an Executive Officer in the Registry Department, reportedly turned down an offer of ₦1,000,000 intended to influence the processing of an HND result. Rather than accepting the inducement, he immediately reported the incident through the appropriate official channels, ensuring the integrity of the Polytechnic’s academic records and examination processes remained intact.
The Registrar noted that Mr. Hussaini’s conduct reflects the highest standards of professionalism and ethical responsibility, especially at a time when public confidence in institutional accountability remains a priority.
In recognition of his outstanding service, the Governing Council approved the issuance of a Letter of Commendation alongside a cash reward of ₦100,000 as a token of appreciation for his honesty, courage, and dedication to duty.
The Council further directed the Polytechnic’s management to forward a formal recommendation to the Jigawa State Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, urging the Ministry to honour Mr. Hussaini in a manner it considers appropriate for his exceptional display of integrity and loyalty to the institution.
Council members expressed confidence that recognising such exemplary conduct would encourage other members of staff to uphold the values of honesty, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Mr. Shamsuddeen Hussaini has since received the Council’s commendation letter and financial award through the management of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, in recognition of his remarkable contribution to preserving the credibility of the institution’s academic system.
