Federal Polytechnic Ayede Science Laboratory Technology Students Undergo Practical Ecological Field Training

Students of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Department at Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, have embarked on an ecological field study as part of their practical training, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to delivering hands-on, competency-based education.
The practical exercise aligns with the vision of the Polytechnic’s management under the leadership of the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. Temilola Morufat Adepoju, to equip students with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skills that prepare them for successful careers in science and technology.
During the field exercise, the students conducted ecological assessments by examining the ecosystem and identifying various habitats within the study area. They also observed and documented different species of plants, grasses, insects, and animals while using standard field equipment, including measuring tapes, ropes, and pegs, to establish sampling plots for scientific investigation.
Speaking on the exercise, the supervising Laboratory Technologist explained that the students applied the quadrat sampling method to determine the size of designated sampling areas and gather ecological data from multiple locations. The exercise involved identifying different organisms, recording field observations, and estimating the population of plant and animal species within the study environment.
According to the supervisor, the practical training is designed to strengthen students’ competence in ecological research, environmental assessment, biodiversity studies, and scientific data collection and analysis, providing them with valuable experience beyond classroom instruction.
Federal Polytechnic Ayede continues to place strong emphasis on experiential learning by exposing students to practical activities that enhance technical competence, critical thinking, and professional development. Through the dedication of its academic staff and laboratory technologists, the institution remains focused on producing highly skilled graduates capable of meeting the demands of modern scientific and industrial workplaces.
Admission into the 2026/2027 Academic Session is currently ongoing, with prospective students encouraged to take advantage of the Polytechnic’s quality academic programmes, modern practical training, and conducive learning environment.
