IMSU Class of 2021 Graduates of Optometry Inducted Into ODORBN
The Induction and oath-taking ceremony of the Class of 2021 graduates of Optometry took place at the Imo University auditorium.
The epoch-making event had in attendance, The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uchefula Chukwumaeze (SAN), The DVC academics, Prof. Philip Ogbonna, the Deputy provost College of Medicine, Prof. J.N.B Nnadozie, The Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Mrs Asinobi C, The Registrar ODORBN, Dr. Obinna Awiaka, the HOD Department of Optometry, Dr Magnus Nsonwu and other principal officers, staffs and members of the Nigerian Optometric Association.
The Vice Chancellor in his address heaped praise on the new leadership of Optometrist and Dispensing Optician Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), under the headship of Dr Obinna Awiaka, for the quick resolution of the bottlenecks and challenges that hampered the induction of the graduands . He described the Registrar of ODORBN as a man of peace, whose words are his bond. Prof Uchefula Chukwumaeze charged the graduands to be great ambassadors of excellence, carry the torch of Optometry forward, making a difference in lives of countless individuals.
The ODORBN Registrar, Dr Obinna Awiaka made it known during his speech when he said “The board will fight quackery to the last, no more shortcuts to glory”.
He told the new graduands to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, ethics and provide comprehensive eye and vision care to the society.
The Oath was administered by the ODORBN Registrar and was read by all Class of 2021 graduates. Shortly after the Oath-taking, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) under the chairmanship of Dr. Chinaka Nwosu (OD, MNOA, FNOA) donated a set of Ophthalmoscope to IMSU Optometry eye clinic for the training of it’s clinical students.
On the course of the induction ceremony, several merit award were presented to some graduates.
John Nkpado emerged the Best Graduating Student (BGS) of IMSU Class of 2021 Doctors of Optometry and First Class graduate with a CGPA 4.57.
The Vice Chancellor, in his words gave an automatic employment to Dr. John Nkpado which will take effect after completion of his National Youth Service.
