FCE Ilawe-Ekiti Holds NHIA Sensitization Workshop for Staff on Health Insurance Benefits

The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, has organized a comprehensive sensitization and training workshop for members of staff on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) scheme as part of efforts to promote quality healthcare and improve staff welfare.
The workshop, which took place on May 21, 2026, at the College Auditorium, featured officials from the NHIA Ekiti State Office who educated participants on the benefits, structure, and implementation of the national health insurance programme.
The event was coordinated by the institution’s Public Relations Officer and officially declared open by the Acting Provost and College Librarian, Dr. Abdulmumin Isah. In his remarks, Dr. Isah reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to ensuring the wellbeing and healthcare security of staff members through active participation in government-backed health initiatives.
He noted that the management of the college remains focused on creating a healthy working environment that supports productivity and staff development. The workshop also had in attendance principal officers of the institution, including the Registrar, Dr. Khadijah Wuraola Garba, and the Bursar, Mrs. Mofoluso Olutayo-David.
Leading the NHIA delegation was the Ekiti State Coordinator, Mrs. Atitebi Abiola, who delivered an extensive presentation on the mandate and operational framework of the Authority. She explained the transition from the former National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to the current NHIA Act 2022, emphasizing the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage across the country.
The technical session was facilitated by senior NHIA officials, including the Head of Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Adeyele John, Enforcement Officer, Mr. Akindele Olufunso Emmanuel, and ICT Officer, Mr. Ige Joshua Toluwalase. The team provided participants with detailed insights into the contributory health insurance scheme and how beneficiaries can access medical services seamlessly.
During the session, staff members were enlightened on the NHIA benefit package, which covers outpatient treatment, maternity services, specialist consultations, and postnatal care. Participants were informed that the maternity package includes coverage for up to four live births alongside 12 weeks of healthcare support for newborn babies.
The facilitators also stressed the importance of the National Identification Number (NIN) in the registration and enrollment process, describing it as a mandatory requirement for all prospective beneficiaries under the scheme.
In addition, participants were educated on their rights as enrollees, including the freedom to choose accredited healthcare providers as well as access complaint and grievance resolution channels provided by the NHIA.
The workshop featured an interactive question-and-answer session where staff members sought clarification on enrollment procedures, hospital access, benefit coverage, and other operational concerns. NHIA officials responded extensively, providing further guidance to ensure participants fully understood the scheme and its advantages.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the College Bursar, Mrs. Mofoluso Olutayo-David, who appreciated the NHIA team for the insightful engagement and commended the college management for prioritizing staff welfare and healthcare awareness.
The event ended with the rendition of the College Anthem, marking another important step toward strengthening health insurance awareness and promoting universal healthcare coverage within the college community.
