Kogi Poly Rector Hosts Governor’s Aide, Reaffirms Commitment to Student Welfare and Institutional Reforms

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has hosted the Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Youth and Student Matters, Oladele John Nihi, during an official congratulatory and strategic engagement visit held on Thursday, May 22, 2026.
The visit coincided with activities marking the Rector’s first 100 days in office, adding significance to ongoing reflections on the administration’s achievements in leadership, institutional stability, and student-focused reforms.
Hon. Nihi, accompanied by government officials as well as leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students and students of the Polytechnic, formally congratulated Prof. Avidime on his appointment as Rector of the institution.
Speaking during the engagement, the Governor’s aide described Prof. Avidime as an accomplished academic and mentor who has influenced and guided numerous leaders across academic, professional, and political sectors. He noted that he personally benefited from the Rector’s mentorship and leadership during his university years.
According to him, Prof. Avidime distinguished himself early in his academic career through intellectual depth, accessibility, and a strong connection with students. He stated that the Rector’s ability to combine academic excellence with genuine concern for students’ growth earned him lasting respect among his mentees.
Hon. Nihi further praised the Rector’s calm temperament, leadership qualities, and dedication to nurturing students beyond the classroom, describing him as a role model whose influence continues to inspire many young professionals and public servants.
Commending the administration’s performance within its first 100 days, the Special Adviser applauded the strides recorded in institutional development, stakeholder engagement, and academic advancement within the Polytechnic. He expressed confidence in the Rector’s ability to strengthen reforms, promote unity, and sustain progress in line with the vision of the Kogi State Government.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship between management and students, noting that continuous dialogue and mutual understanding remain essential for lasting peace and stability on campus.
Hon. Nihi advocated stronger attention to students’ welfare, emphasizing that improved living conditions, responsive administrative systems, effective communication, and academic support structures are critical to creating a productive learning environment. According to him, prioritizing students’ wellbeing is key to sustaining discipline, motivation, and academic excellence.
In his response, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment as Rector.
The Rector described the opportunity to serve as a call to greater responsibility and reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership, inclusiveness, and administrative excellence in advancing the institution.
Prof. Avidime further stated that young people in Kogi State are no longer merely seen as future leaders but are actively contributing to governance, entrepreneurship, public service, and administration. He credited this development to the youth-friendly leadership style of Governor Ododo and the political foundation established by former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.
He noted that the deliberate inclusion of youths in leadership and governance processes across the state continues to inspire a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders committed to the development of Kogi State.
The Rector also reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to an open-door policy that encourages inclusiveness, dialogue, discipline, and collective responsibility in the administration of the institution.
According to him, students’ welfare remains one of the major priorities of his administration, stressing that meaningful academic progress can only thrive in an environment where students’ interests and wellbeing are adequately protected.
He assured the visiting delegation that the management would continue to promote a conducive learning environment, strengthen student-management relations, and implement policies that positively impact students academically, socially, and morally.
The engagement ended with renewed commitments from both parties towards promoting quality education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development within the Polytechnic and the wider educational sector in Kogi State.
