NUC Opens Nationwide Recruitment Portal for Multiple Vacancies

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced the launch of a nationwide recruitment exercise to fill several positions at its headquarters in Abuja.

In a public notice released on Friday, the Commission invited qualified Nigerians to apply for vacancies across various cadres, including officer roles, confidential secretary positions, and clerical or auxiliary staff. Interested applicants are advised to submit their applications free of charge through the official NUC career portals at careers.nuc.edu.ng or nuc.edu.ng within six weeks of the announcement. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further screening.

For the officer cadre, available roles include Senior Officer (CONTISS 9), Trainee/Officer I (CONTISS 8), and Trainee Officer II (CONTISS 7).

  • Senior Officer candidates must possess a PhD in a relevant discipline or a Master’s degree with a minimum of six years of post-qualification experience. Additional professional certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Trainee/Officer I applicants are required to have a Master’s degree or a first degree with at least three years of relevant experience.
  • Trainee Officer II candidates must hold at least a first degree in a related field.

The recruitment also covers Confidential Secretary I (CONTISS 7) positions, which require a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretarial Studies and at least three years of post-qualification experience.

For clerical and auxiliary roles, vacancies include Assistant Cameraman, Data Processing Assistant, Artisan/Craftsman (carpenter, plumber, electrician, air-conditioning mechanic), Lift Operator, and Motor Driver/Mechanic. Minimum qualifications range from a First School Leaving Certificate to an O’ Level certificate with trade test credentials and relevant technical training or experience.

Established in 1962 and granted statutory powers in 1974, the NUC is responsible for accrediting academic programmes, licensing new universities, and maintaining quality standards across Nigeria’s 283 recognized universities, which include 72 federal, 67 state, and 168 private institutions.

Prospective applicants are urged to carefully follow the guidelines on the official portals and ensure timely submission to be considered for the recruitment process.
