Gunmen Attack Jigawa Polytechnic Students’ Hostel, Injure Two

Students of Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, Jigawa State, were thrown into panic on Thursday night when armed men stormed an off-campus hostel along the Malam Madori road. The attackers reportedly assaulted occupants of the male students’ quarters, carted away several mobile phones, and injured at least two students during the raid.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around midnight when the gunmen invaded the isolated lodge. “They caused chaos, injured some students, and took many phones belonging to the students,” a resident who requested anonymity recounted. Another witness, Tukur Danlami, said the attackers fled after neighbours and passersby responded to the students’ loud cries for help.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, explained that the attack took place at a privately rented accommodation for male students located outside the main campus. He described the area as “quite isolated,” which made it vulnerable to the assault.
Adam revealed that two students sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Hadejia General Hospital for treatment. “Both victims have been treated and discharged,” he said, adding that police patrols were immediately intensified and an investigation is underway to apprehend the culprits.
Efforts to reach the polytechnic management for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
Meanwhile, a local youth leader, Garba Ibrahim, condemned the attack and urged the government to take urgent action. “The people here are terrified. Such incidents threaten the safety of our youths. We call on security agencies to increase patrols and put more security measures in place around the institution,” he said, pledging community support for law enforcement efforts.
