Federal Polytechnic Oko News: NAPS Leadership Visits Rector Dr. Chioma Awuzie, Confers 2026 Best Rector Nomination

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has received a high-powered delegation from the National Association of Polytechnic Students during a courtesy visit held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The delegation was led by the NAPS Senate President, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, who commended the Rector for her exceptional leadership style and strong commitment to student welfare. He described Dr. Awuzie as a supportive and student-friendly administrator, noting that her open-door policy has significantly strengthened student engagement within the institution.

Speaking during the visit, the Senate President revealed that the association had reached out to several tertiary institutions across Nigeria to host its national senate sitting but received no response. He stated that Federal Polytechnic Oko stood out as the only institution that granted approval, a move he said reflects the Rector’s proactive and inclusive leadership approach.

He expressed appreciation to the institution’s management for accommodating the national event and emphasized that NAPS is proud to be associated with Federal Polytechnic Oko. According to him, the institution has demonstrated a commendable standard in student relations and administrative support.

In a major highlight of the visit, Comrade Festus announced that Dr. Awuzie has been nominated for the prestigious Best Rector of the Year 2026 award. He formally invited her to attend the opening session of the NAPS senate sitting, where the award is scheduled to be presented.

Responding, the Rector welcomed the NAPS delegation and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to promoting student development and institutional harmony. She assured the association of her continued support and reiterated her policy of recognizing outstanding student leaders. Dr. Awuzie also emphasized that any Student Union Government president who demonstrates exemplary leadership during her tenure would be considered for future opportunities within the institution.

Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, highlighted the Rector’s responsiveness to student-related issues, stating that she consistently prioritizes matters affecting students. He praised her dedication and noted that her leadership has fostered a healthy and cooperative relationship between the Student Union Government and the polytechnic management.

The visit also featured prominent members of the NAPS delegation, including former NAPS President and current Director of Strategy and Innovation, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, Director of Special Duties, Comrade Abdulramon Busari, Clerk of the Senate, Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Origbo, and National Stakeholder, Comrade Abdulmumeen Bebe.

The Student Union Government President of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu, was also present at the meeting alongside members of the SUG executive council.
