Outrage as EFCC Storms Bida Student Hostels Without Warrant—NAPS Demands Justice

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has strongly condemned what it describes as a “brazen and unlawful invasion” of student hostels by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Bida, near the Federal Polytechnic.
According to NAPS, EFCC officials reportedly stormed multiple student lodges without search warrants, allegedly harassed students, damaged personal belongings, and arrested several individuals—many of whom, the association claims, had no ties to any criminal activity.
In a statement released by its National President, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, NAPS expressed deep concern over the raid, calling it a gross violation of the rights and dignity of innocent students.
“Students are not criminals by default. Raiding academic environments without due process threatens the mental well-being and academic focus of our members,” Ayomide stated.
While reiterating the association’s commitment to supporting anti-corruption efforts, NAPS warned that such operations must respect constitutional rights and follow due legal procedures.
The student body has issued a five-point demand to the EFCC and relevant authorities:
- Immediate and unconditional release of all unlawfully detained students.
- Public apology and compensation for affected students.
- A transparent investigation into the conduct of the EFCC officers involved.
- Formal dialogue between EFCC leadership and student representatives.
- Strict adherence to due process in future operations near academic institutions.
NAPS has also called on the Federal Government and human rights organizations to urgently intervene, warning that continued harassment of students under the guise of law enforcement could spark further unrest.
“An injury to one polytechnic student is an injury to all,” the statement concluded.
The EFCC is yet to release an official statement addressing the allegations.
