Federal Polytechnic Oko Begins 2027 Promotion Exercise Early as Rector Promises Timely Staff Advancement

The management of Federal Polytechnic Oko has commenced the 2027 promotion exercise for non-teaching staff, with the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, assuring workers of timely promotion implementation and payment of entitlements.
The promotion examination, which was held at the Polytechnic Auditorium, saw eligible non-teaching staff successfully participate in the exercise as part of efforts to ensure promotions are captured in the institution’s next budget cycle.
Representing the Rector at the exercise, the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Amobi Chiamaogu, disclosed that the administration deliberately fast-tracked the promotion and appraisal process to prevent delays often associated with implementation and arrears payment.
According to him, the Rector reviewed previous promotion exercises in the Polytechnic and discovered that promotions were frequently implemented outside the appropriate budget period, leading to prolonged delays in the payment of benefits.
He explained that the management’s decision to begin the process early was aimed at ensuring proper budgetary provision for staff promotions in 2027.
Dr. Chiamaogu further reaffirmed the Rector’s commitment to staff welfare, career growth, and a transparent advancement system within the institution.
He noted that the administration values the contributions of non-teaching staff and sees the promotion examination as an important step toward strengthening both staff morale and institutional development.
The ICT Director also urged workers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and maintain professionalism, stressing that the Polytechnic administration has zero tolerance for corruption.
Speaking during the exercise, Chairman of the 2027 Non-Teaching Staff Appraisal and Promotion Committee, Comrade Inno Okeke, described the Rector as a “trailblazer” for proactively initiating the promotion process.
He noted that unlike many tertiary institutions where unions push management to implement promotions, the Federal Polytechnic Oko management took the initiative by engaging unions, constituting a committee, and announcing timelines for the exercise.
Also speaking, the Polytechnic Registrar, Mr. Ayoola Akeem, represented by Dr. Barnabas Nwafor, commended the Rector for her determination to eliminate promotion arrears and praised the committee for conducting a smooth and transparent exercise.
The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics branch in the institution, Comrade Chukwunonso Ndubuisi, described the development as a landmark achievement, noting that it was the first time the institution was conducting promotion examinations at the appropriate time.
Similarly, the branch chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, Comrade Emmanuel Okolie, applauded the Rector’s commitment to staff welfare and career advancement, while also commending the promotion committee for ensuring fairness, transparency, and due process throughout the exercise.
