Everything You Need to Know About Federal Polytechnic Idah (IDAH POLY)
BRIEF HISTORY.
The Federal Polytechnic Idah, initially known as Idah College of Technology, was established on Monday, November 28, 1977, by the then Federal Military Government. It was part of a broad national attempt to solve practical problems facing the Nigerian economy. It was one of the seven polytechnics established under Decree No. 33 of July 1979. Its establishment was part of the nation’s attempt to solve practical technological manpower problems facing the nation with the following mandates:
The Polytechnic Community.
The Polytechnic is situated in the ancient town of Idah, the traditional headquarters of the Igala Kingdom in Kogi State. The Polytechnic has an area of 1,238.5 hectares of land bounded to the north by Idah/Anyigba Road, to the east by Idah/Odolu Road, to the south by Idah/Ibaji Road, and to the west by the River Niger.
Some of the common businesses In the polytechnic and the polytechnic community are fishing, POS businesses, trades, farming, cafe businesses, restaurants, commercial motorcycles, and car washes, among others. As of the time of publishing this article, the polytechnic and the polytechnic community are peaceful, and both academic and non-academic activities are going on peacefully. POLYTV rated the security level in Idah Poly community as 70/100%.

IDAH POLY PROGRAMMES.
The Federal Polytechnic Idah runs full-time programs only for both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND), and the duration for each program is 2years of four(4) semesters. The polytechnic doesn’t run a part-time or evening program as of the time this article was published.

SCHOOLS AND DEPARTMENTS.
The polytechnic operates on five faculties: the School of Business Studies, the School of Engineering, the School of Environmental Studies, the School of General and Administration Studies, and the School of Technology. IDAH POLY ADMISSION.
Admission to the Federal Polytechnic Idah is easy and straightforward, as long as you follow the instructions.
1. NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND).
To gain admission to the National Diploma level, applicants must possess at least five (5) credits in relevant subjects, including English language and mathematics, and must have sat for the last UTME and obtained a minimum score of 120. Candidates must have chosen the institution as their first choice to be considered for admission. Please note that you can’t gain admission to the Federal Polytechnic Idah without Jamb.
2. HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND).
The FedPoly Idah HND program is two(2) years. The school offers admission to her products and students from other recognized polytechnics. To be eligible for HND, you must possess a National Diploma (ND) in your discipline with a minimum of lower credit, while candidates with a CGPA below 2.50 may be considered for admission with evidence of 2years cognate experience.
The school usually conducts entrance examinations for HND applicants; that is, after applying for admission, you will sit for a CBT examination, and your performance would determine whether or not you will be offered admission.

Can I gain admission to Fedpoly Idah without Jamb?
For now, no! Admission to the polytechnic is strictly by JAMB, and the school does not have part-time or evening programs, as explained earlier. They run full-time programs only.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES.
Academic activities at the polytechnic Idah are very fast; in fact, the school is one of the fastest polytechnics in Nigeria. Some of the polytechnic lecturers are friendly, while others are very strict. It is advisable that you buy their textbooks and handouts to be on the safe side and make sure you get 70% attendance. If you attend your lectures regularly, buy your handouts and textbooks, and carry out the necessary course work, you won’t have issues with any of the lecturers, and you will surely graduate without issues.

The school has a student union that is responsible for the affairs of the polytechnic students and serves as a bridge between the management and the students. Apart from the SUG, there are many other social, cultural, and tribal groups on campus. Some of the popular associations on campus include the National Association of Kogi State students.
The popular departments in the polytechnic are accountancy, public administration, business administration, and science laboratory technology. In addition, the school doesn’t have a specific dress code, but some departments do. Indecent dressing is highly prohibited in the polytechnic, and any defaulter student risks being sanctioned by the school authority. So if you are coming to study at Idah Poly, you must learn to dress decently.

SCHOOL FEES.
Federal Polytechnic Idah school fees for all programs are very affordable. Although school fees vary from faculty to faculty, as of the last academic session, school fees for ND were #53,000, while HND students paid #50,000 for the first year.
- NDI – #52,150
- NDII – #28,500
- HNDI – #49,600
- HNDII: #28,500
Other fees paid by the students are acceptance fees of #10,000 only. SUG fees, departmental fees, and association fees.

ACCOMMODATION.
Accommodation is cheap in the polytechnic community. A single room in Idah ranges from 15,000 to #25,000 per year, while a self-contained apartment ranges from #45,000 to #75,000 per year, depending on how close it is to the campus.
The polytechnic has its own hostels to accommodate students who can’t afford accommodation off-campus or want to stay in the school hostel; the cost per bed space per session is #10,000.

In conclusion, apart from the fact that The Federal Polytechnic Idah is one of the best polytechnics in Nigeria, it is also among the fastest polytechnics with affordable school fees. As you can see, school fees are affordable and likewise accommodations. Also, the security report in the polytechnic community is okay.
