Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, has reached a historic milestone with the election of its first substantive Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Dr. T. A. Dada. The election took place on Monday, 19th January 2026, within the premises of the Polytechnic and was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. Dr. Dada emerged unopposed, reflecting the confidence and trust placed in him by members of the union.
The electoral process was supervised by the national leadership of ASUP, led by Comrade Nurudeen Masopa, Chairman of ASUP Zone C, ensuring credibility and transparency. Comrade Masopa praised the unity and maturity of the academic staff, highlighting that the rancour-free election demonstrated a commitment to democratic principles, fairness, and collective progress.
Following the election, Dr. Dada was formally sworn in, alongside other executive members, marking the formation of the Polytechnic’s first full ASUP executive council. The inauguration signifies a new era of organized and substantive union leadership within the institution.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Dada, who previously served as protem chairman, expressed gratitude for the trust of his colleagues. He pledged to implement an inclusive and transparent administration, emphasizing that his leadership would prioritize academic staff welfare, enhance professionalism, and foster constructive engagement with Polytechnic Management to drive institutional growth.
Dr. Dada also underscored the importance of unity among members, noting that a strong and cohesive union is crucial for advancing polytechnic education and safeguarding the rights and dignity of academic staff.
The integration of the EKSPOLY ASUP chapter into the national union framework is regarded as a key step toward strengthening industrial harmony, improving staff welfare advocacy, and enhancing governance at the Polytechnic. This development positions the institution for active participation in national ASUP initiatives and policy engagements affecting the polytechnic sector.
The election and inauguration of Dr. Dada represent a significant boost to ASUP leadership, institutional development, and the welfare of academic staff at Ekiti State Polytechnic.
