The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has congratulated the newly elected executive members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), following the declaration of election results on Friday at the Twin Lecture Theatre, Science Complex of the institution.
Represented by Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Lawan Cheri, the Rector affirmed the management’s commitment to fostering collaboration with the new ASUP leadership, emphasizing a partnership built on mutual understanding, synergy, and the promotion of peace and academic excellence across the Polytechnic.
In his acceptance speech, the re-elected ASUP Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Nuhu, who returned unopposed with endorsement from two-thirds of the delegates, thanked members for their confidence and support. He pledged to implement an inclusive leadership style, guided by an open-door policy, transparency, and accountability, to ensure all members are actively engaged in union affairs.
Other key executives elected include:
- Vice Chairman: Sunday Eineje Ameh (unopposed)
- General Secretary: Hamisu Musa (after a keenly contested election)
- Publicity Secretary: Babagana Bukar (elected after a competitive contest)
- Assistant General Secretary: Kurah Joshua (unopposed)
- Welfare Director: Ayuba Abubakar Abba (unopposed)
- Treasurer: Ibrahim Usman Saleh (unopposed)
- Financial Secretary: Danladi Ibrahim Musa (unopposed)
- Internal Auditor: Aminu Aliyu (unopposed)
The newly elected executives were officially sworn in, following the administration of the oath of office by Barr. Abdullahi Abba of S. M. Abba & Co. (Pulaku Chambers), marking the formal commencement of their tenure.
The Polytechnic management and staff expressed confidence that the new ASUP executive council will foster staff welfare, strengthen industrial harmony, and advance academic development within the institution, reinforcing the Polytechnic’s commitment to quality tertiary education and professional growth.
The Head of Information and Protocol, Muhd. Nura Nguru, MNIPR, reported that the inauguration reflects a renewed dedication to transparent governance and effective union-management collaboration at Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu.
