Federal Polytechnic Mubi Shutdown: ASUP Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries and NHIS Crisis

Academic activities at Federal Polytechnic, Mubi have been brought to a halt as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) announced an indefinite strike effective Thursday, April 2, 2026.

The union directed all its members to withdraw their services immediately, citing the institution’s management failure to address critical welfare issues affecting lecturers and other academic staff.

According to a statement signed by the union’s Publicity Secretary, Comr. Abubakar Barkindo, the strike action became unavoidable following prolonged delays in implementing the 2026 promotion exercise and settling outstanding salary arrears.

The union also raised serious concerns over the non-remittance of deductions to the National Health Insurance Scheme, which has reportedly led to the deregistration of affected staff from the scheme, leaving many without access to healthcare services.

ASUP emphasized that all members must remain off duty indefinitely until the institution’s management fully complies with its demands. The union warned that academic activities would remain suspended for as long as the issues persist.

The development is expected to disrupt lectures, examinations, and other academic operations within the institution, adding to the growing concerns over stability in Nigeria’s polytechnic education sector.

Students and stakeholders are now anxiously awaiting a resolution, as pressure mounts on the management of the institution to urgently address the union’s demands and restore normal academic activities.
