Details of the Ethics Training for Researchers at Federal University, Otukpo

A 3-Day training for Research Ethic Committee, (REC), members of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, (FUHSO) has commenced at the University’s take off campus, Otada, in Otukpo.
Declaring the programme open, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Innocent Ujah, OON, mni while welcoming participants, reminiscenced the story of the University from the genesis, noting that the maiden students are currently in their 200 level, expressing happiness with the calibre of the resource persons for the crucial training.
He emphasized that Professor Ezechi Oliver, one of the facilitators, whom he worked with when he held sway as Director General of the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, (NIMR), Lagos, is a reliable and dependable Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, urging participants to use the opportunity to advance their careers for the good of the Institution.
Prof Ujah further pointed out that the University’s REC were carefully selected, stressing that they must remain focused during and after the training, to achieve the objective of the University to uphold the confidence reposed in them, reciprocally.
Earlier, Chairman of the Research Ethic Committee and Head of Department, Community Medicine of the University, Professor Onyemocho Audu, thanked the Vice Chancellor and Management for attracting the training to FUHSO, and the enabling environment to serve, averring that the University won the Institutional Base Research, (IBR), 2022, as a result of commitment and determination, assuring that the committee would make FUHSO proud.


The training, which focused on the Protection of Human Participants and Responsible Conduct of Research and “How to Review Protocols and Provide Constructive Feedback”, anchored by the National Health Research Ethics Committee of Nigeria, had Professor Ezechi Oliver of NIMR, Professor Kola Oyedeji from University of Lagos, and Ado Danladi of Research Ethic Unit of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, as resource persons.
