Between JAMB Admission and School Admission, Which One is More Compulsory? Find Answers here

As an aspirant who is looking forward to gaining admission to a tertiary institution in Nigeria, one of the most important documents that confirm you as a bona fide student is your admission letter, whether from JAMB or the school. In some cases, one may come before the other, and this may raise the question: “Between JAMB admission and school admission, which one is more compulsory?”—perhaps if the school has offered you admission and you are yet to receive the admission letter from JAMB.

Between JAMB Admission and School Admission, Which One is More Compulsory?

Actually, both are important. For clarity, your school admission is more important because it is the school that processes the admission and sends it to JAMB for upload.

By the way, if JAMB has offered you admission and your name is not on the school list, you may not be able to proceed with your registration yet.

Although, in most cases, the requirements for admission clearance in the school include both the “JAMB admission letter and the school admission letter,” there are cases where the school may offer you admission without informing JAMB. Thus, school admission is more important.

If you are opening a student bank account, you will need your school admission letter as the primary document for account opening, not JAMB’s letter.

There are situations where what you applied for is not what you are given; you could choose Biochemistry, but the school may offer you Chemistry. With the school admission, you can be sure that you are a bona fide student of the institution.

However, even with a JAMB admission letter, your school can still recommend that you change your course to another department or disqualify you. Although cases like this are rare, it can happen. JAMB admission is also important because it is part of the prerequisites for NYSC mobilization.

If the school has offered you admission, you should start celebrating because the admission will surely reflect on JAMB. 

With or without JAMB, as long as the school has offered you admission, you are good to go.

In conclusion, both the school admission and JAMB admission are important. However, school admission is more important as it confirms that the student has been fully admitted to the school. Make sure you print both the school admission letter and the JAMB admission letter, as both are necessary for clearance registration for all admitted students.
