Years After graduation, Edo Poly Ex-students Became Jobless, Battling With NYSC Mobilization Due to Accreditation Issues

The management of the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has failed to accredit its new and existing programs, which has caused inconvenience to her students as they were unable to be mobilized for the one-year NYSC.
The students lamented that almost all the courses offered by the polytechnic have yet to be accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Some of the ex-students who are ND graduates said that they couldn’t secure a job and further their education in other schools due to this same issue.
One of the student representatives in the polytechnic who spoke with POLYTV called on the Edo State government and Ministry of Education to facilitate the accreditation of the new and existing programs in the institution.
He said, “It is true, and I can confirm to you that only 3 courses are accredited for HND in EDO POLY, which are computer science, electrical electronics, and one other; the rest have not been accredited.”

“I graduated last year, and since then my certificate has become useless because they didn’t clear us in NYSC camp as we were told that our programmes are not accredited, and I also couldn’t secure a job due to the school management’s negligence on this issue.”
The students appealed to the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and other student bodies to come to their aid over the illegal programmes in the institution.
The rector of the polytechnic, when contacted by Our Correspondent, refused to comment on the matter. He said, “Come to the school yourself and verify; I can’t tell you anything; go to the school registry and ask.”

I am one of the affected graduands. About three sets of graduands (3 academic session) have not been mobilized for NYSC due to accreditation issue. It’s only two programs that have been fully accredited at HND level, and these were existing programs running in the instruction before the present rector, Prof. Abiodun Falodun came to the school. However, Ẹdọ State polytechnic, Usen has not been able to accredit the new HND programs, which include; public administration, business administration, Accountancy, Estate management, etc. We’re soliciting for immediate intervention of the state government regarding the issue of accreditation of programs in Edo state polytechnic,USEN.
