2026 UTME Registration Update: JAMB Suspends Exam Town Selection – What Candidates Must Know

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has temporarily suspended the selection of examination towns for candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Ekiti State.
The announcement was made by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin in Abuja on Tuesday, who explained that the suspension is part of efforts to restructure exam town allocations to bring testing centers closer to candidates and reduce logistical challenges on exam days.
Typically, candidates select examination towns nearest to their locations. However, during the 2026 UTME registration, structural anomalies were detected in Ekiti’s examination town configuration. These irregularities prompted the board to implement urgent adjustments to ensure fairness and accessibility for all candidates.
While the adjustment process is ongoing, candidates in Ekiti will not be able to select any examination town. Benjamin assured the public that the process would be concluded shortly, emphasizing that the board is committed to minimizing disruptions for students during the registration period.
He expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and highlighted JAMB’s continuous efforts to monitor operations and promptly resolve issues raised by candidates. The spokesperson reaffirmed the board’s commitment to improving its processes, ensuring that all candidates are treated with dignity and fairness throughout the examination process.
The 2026 UTME registration continues nationwide, with JAMB implementing measures to ensure efficiency, transparency, and convenience for prospective university students.
