Why Fights Are Normal in Relationships
A relationship involves two like-minded individuals coming together to build a future as a couple. Due to differences in character, behavior, and attitudes, conflicts in relationships become inevitable. Here are reasons why conflicts are normal in relationships and how they can contribute to healthier relationships.
1. You Get to Know Your Partner Better.
Conflicts and misunderstandings help us understand our partners better, especially their character. When you and your partner engage in a heated argument, what matters is not the argument itself, but what happens afterward. Do you settle your relationship issues yourselves and make adjustments? There is no smoke without fire; for a conflict to occur, something must have triggered it. Thus, conflicts contribute to relationship growth, as they help you learn what your partner dislikes and what irritates them. Conflicts reveal a lot about who you are dating, whether they are gentle, patient, or violent.

However, if you pretend everything is fine with their habits, achieving a happy relationship could become a nightmare. Conflicts strengthen relationships because we learn to adjust to our partner’s complaints.

Conflicts can be another way to learn about resolving relationship problems without third-party intervention. After a conflict, what happens next? Maybe communication. If you can communicate with your partner after a conflict and resolve the issue without the consent of family and friends, that is a positive sign. Many relationships end after a conflict despite family and friends’ intervention. Conflicts can provide an opportunity for us to express our feelings clearly and feel heard.
