Tragedy in Nasarawa: Polytechnic Student Hacked to Death by Friend in Brutal Attack

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested John Gambo, a student of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), for the gruesome murder of his fellow student, Ibrahim Matthew, during a violent altercation.
Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, February 7, 2025, revealing that Gambo confessed to using both an axe and a knife to fatally attack Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of February 6, 2025, when a distress call was made by a resident, Mercy Bassey, reporting a heated confrontation between two individuals at a student lodge behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa.
Upon arrival, detectives discovered Matthew lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries. He was rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where doctors pronounced him dead. His remains were later deposited in the morgue for further examination.
Following swift investigations, Gambo, an ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department, was apprehended and immediately confessed to the crime. The police recovered the murder weapons—an axe and a knife—from the suspect.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
